This person 100% shares my thoughts on this. The Final Fantasy music is the best example, as mentioned above. Most consoles need awesome game music to brighten up the atmosphere. The bigger-screen consoles demand more, however. For example, a PS2/PS3 would need music more than a GBA/PSP. That's the feeling I get, at least. For some reason, the smaller the 'screen' is, the less 'excited' you can get. Perhaps some of you would agree with this statement? In a game, the battle music is the most important(to me). Basically, the suitable battle music would make you feel more 'in the mood' to enjoy the experience. Final Fantasy, Persona 4, Disgaea and the like are good examples. But, just like Benji above said, certain games don't matter. It just doesn't contribute to the 'goodness' of the game.I kind of have a penchant for soundtracks of all kinds, and games are no exception!A well-scored game is a thing of beauty and a joy of awesomeness. But some kinds of games really shine with their sounds, whereas others are sadly lacking. (That was kind of a "duh" statement, but bear with me.
) The music for the Final Fantasy series is among the finest gaming music out there (piano collections and everything), but the music for the original SimTown definitely leaves something to be desired. The Smash Bros players among us can appreciate some of the cool choices on certain levels - the symphonic version of Kirby's theme is actually a lovely piece, and smashing is all the more fun to the sounds of the F-Zero or Pokemon theme. Even something dark and dreary like the score to American McGee's Alice shows a level of skill and sophistication that one can enjoy both during and after play.Of course, you've got some games where sound just ain't so important ... Tetris, for example. In these cases, the game doesn't suffer from lack of music ... it just benefits from the minimalist style.

not just in games, music is very important everywhere. as you say, it creates the atmosphere of the game, level, situation, event etc. however, it is also often overlooked. when people talk about games, movies, or anything where music is involved, they almost always leave the discussion of music out even though music generally plays non-stop in almost all games and movies. To me, music is VERY IMPORTANT. It creates the atmosphere of the game.I like to know your opinions on game music
