Resident Evil was the first game 10 years ago that gave me nightmares and I had to allow my little brother to sleep with me many nights. The groaning and moaning sticks to your head pretty well in those games. All fun and games though.

The Suffering was the last game that actually freaked me out. A few zombies are nothing compared to a pack of Slayers and Mainliners.

It's strange how most of these stories that you hear are about Resident Evil. My personal story would have to be about two games. Haunting Ground is one of them. It doesn't have that many creatures in it that could freak you out. In fact, I think there are only two or three enemies in the whole game. The biggest thing there is the atmosphere. It's just totally creepy and the panic mode is strange. The other one is Lifeline. Some of those creatures in that game really freak me out. I hear Doom 3 is totally terrifying, but I haven't played that much of that one. All in all, I don't play that many scary games. The demo I have for Silent Hill 4 freaked me out.Fare thee well,Belkra

Silent Hill and Doom 3 are pretty intense ways of spending your nocturnal game hours.

When I was younger (About 7-9), I always used to play Majora's mask in PJ64 when it was dark, and it creeped me out no end =S

An interesting set of free horror adventure games is the Trilby series (5 days a stranger, 7 days a skeptic etc) had that effect on me. While the graphics are a throw back to the old monkey island days (1&2) the actual affect comes from the story telling... very good story telling at that.

I think Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube was wild. So was Call of Cthulhu:Dark Corners of the Earth (without a HUD)

One game I didn't mention that really freaked me out was SiRen. This game is just scary. Imagine this: You are walking around a creepy Japanese village that is crawling with zombies. You have this ability that allows you to see things through the eyes of other people, even the zombies. Now imangine that every time one of the zombies gets you in it's sights and starts running at you to kill you, your vision momentarily flashes to what the zombie sees. You're walking around, trying not to be seen and then bam! Your vision shifts to a quick view of your backside before you are left trying to restart the level.It also has an interesting way of telling the story that I found wierd at first, but have come to like. The game doesn't necesarily play in chronological order. It jumps around and sometimes you have to play through the same part of the story with a different character. Interesting stuff if you ask me.Fare thee well,Belkra

Buy Condemned if you have a 360. That scares the crap out of you if you're in the mood for a scary game.

When I was really young I always watched my brother playing Resident Evil and I was really scared of zombies .. When I played it in the night I was really scared . But nowadays I played with Condemned on X360 .. Plus I have home theatre system which means you hear the voices from 4 sides and its like if they are behind you and its freaking you out.

Resident Evil tormented me for the longest time. After playing House of the Dead and lots of other zombie thrillers, I ended up taking Resident Evil to heart way too quickly. I remember Resident Evil 3 scaring me to half to death because of Nemesis being almost impossible to kill and chasing me endlessly while he tortured me to death after grabbing me by the throat. I almost threw the game out of the window.

The only game that freaked me out at night was the first biohazard.. not because i was scared, but because of thatdog that jumped through the window at the first part of the game wherein i was still getting used to the controls...jill died that time because i didn't know how to fire the gun or properly slice with the knife :yaynds:

I really enjoyed fear. It had just little things in it to kind of creep you out and was very well done I thought. :( Plus it lived up to its name! Which is always a great thing ^^;

The only game to freak me out was Silent Hill. I had a day off in the middle of the week, and I was just playing through the early part of the game. Here it is like 10AM, empty house, plenty of light and stuff but walking that empty street in the fog with just the radio crackle had me really freaked. At one point I jumped at some really random sound and had to pause the game I was laughing so hard at myself.

I think Resident Evil 2 was one of the scariest games I ever played as a kid. I would listen to the wind at night and wait for the moan of the undead to be heard in the night. I also found some weird Gameshark codes for Super Mario 64 that were freaky.

Half Life 2, In the Ravenholm Chapter, where you are on the rooftop and those fast screaming headcrab guys are jumping over the ledge and ripping you to shreds, thats always fun at 2 AM lol
