So, about 2 years ago, my PS2 (one of the fat ones) started saying "Disc Read Error" whenever I tried to load a game. I got it to work every once in a while, but eventually it just stopped reading ANYTHING (CDs, DVDs, Games). :/ Got a new one a year later. How many of you have had or are going through this?

Yeah, that happened to my old, big PS2. I just bought a new one when it finally stopped reading disks completely.

I've had that message before and I wondered if my PS2 was broken. But later on, I just found out that the disc and the scanner was dirty.

That happened to me twice. (Once with the big PS2, and one with the skinny.) I just opened it, cleaned out all the dust inside, and it worked again. :/

It happened to me just a few weeks ago when my PS2 wasn't reading some of my games. But like the others said, it's just an accumulation of dust on the disc reader. I blew into the PS2 disc reader area to blow it out of there, and it was fine then.

This happened with my old ps2, turns out the disk reader had a crack in it and it would have taken $70 to replace it, so I opted to buy a ps2 slim :\

Augh! I had this problem before. My brother went into the PS2 and cleaned the lens. After that we've never had a problem.

You just have to open it and either clean it or move the cd tray down

I still use old PS2 (big and thick one), but I have never had "Disc Read Error". I think I bought my PS2 around 5 years ago.

I actually never got a "disc read error" but my PS2s all crapped out in the same exact way...not being able to read discs. They spin them, and make beeping noises, but never actually read the game. Actually, I might have gotten a disc read error. LOL. I can't remember, I gave up on that system years ago, after the third one broke.
