I think that it's a fun game. However, I would have liked for them to flesh out the story mode a bit more

I haven't played any of the older versions (save a few minutes of II), but I just recently bought a copy of IV, seeing as most of my online friends were telling me how great it was, and I "had" to get it so we could battle. Truth is, I don't really like it all that much. Yeah, it's not a horrible game, but it's just not for me. :<... Oh well, there goes another $60 down the drain. -_-

As usual with most fighting games, the story could use some beefing, but otherwise, it's a solid game and lots of fun. Finishers are epic and I love how you can't just block forever anymore. I always hated that, how I could never get though blocks without trying some charged sheild breaking move and just be countered. This makes it fair... did I mention the finishing moves are EPIC?!?

I love all the Soul Calibers but number 4 is just way cooler. My favorite char is nightmare because he sounds and looks awsome.

i bought it and returned it. honestly, it's weird. I'm a big fan of Tekken 5, and was expecting somewhat of the same thing. instead, i found a game that was difficult to execute combos, a horrible story system, and an all around unimpressive game. download tekken 5 over psn if you have ps3. pass by this game if you see it

sould calibur 4 is fun... but i prefer fighting without weapons, such as in tekken. Still, game was not bad.

Its ok. The grphics are good. Story mode could be better. There are sone nice new feature though. I like it, but soul calibur 3 was better to me.

Comparing it to tekken, its kinda far off, but it has its good aspectsSuch as the different types of weapons to use for each character and new skill attatchable to each charaters =]

Soul Calibur IV is an OKAY game, but I'm getting kind of tired of it, its repetitive but at least they have that customizable character option. Oh and the main story lines are... boring...

4 is the worst title yet for many reasons. The inclusion of Star Wars characters feels completely out of place, but that's not what makes the game bad. I'm talking about some gameplay issues here. It's more than obvious that the game gives a huge advantage to playing purely offensively (and letting you stay on the offensive). The usefulness of guard impacts has been toned down quite a bit, as you can no longer GI throws. Also, the delay after you whiff a GI has been lengthened to the point where your opponent could react and punish it with just about anything. You can't guard "mid" attacks crouching. This effectively turns the entire game into 50-50s - which is not fun. You either block low and risk getting hit by 3/4 of the moves in the game, or you block high and risk getting thrown or hit low into KD and reset (then again, I guess you could always jump, which takes a couple frames to even leave the ground and once you're in the air, the smallest jab causes KD and reset). In the end, what's your reward for blocking successfully? Soul crush into critical finish, because the game hates you for blocking. If you don't want to get critical finished, you're forced to either poke out with a faster move (that usually doesn't result in damage) or GI something. The only way out of really good pressure or frame traps is to have a faster poke than they do. What happens if your character has no faster pokes? you're forced to run the gauntlet with GIs. If you fail then you simply eat a hit and die slower. Some moves even have ~3F of startup, which is probably faster than most normal human beings can react to. That's before mentioning that it takes about 1-2F for your character to even count as "standing up" in the first place. Add some netplay lag to that and it's even more fun. What a great game. I can't believe I spent money on this. I guess it could be fun to people who don't play fighting games seriously or who just want to mess around with friends, but to someone who wants to get into the raw mechanics and depth of these games, this game is a huge failure.

I'm not a huge Soulcalibur player, so I don't really know the really technical aspect o fit, but I'm a fan of 4. Of the two characters I main, Voldo is fantastic, and Nightmare is still fun to use. It's not as good as 2, but it's definitely not as bad as 3.
