My Xbox 360 broke once and I had a warranty. Then the new one broke, I left it alone for awhile and it started working again.

mine has been running strong for over a year now, i take good care of it and have additional cooling fans attached, only problems i ever had was disc read errors. no big deal though. my lil bro got his x-box the same time i did and he got the red ring of death like 2 months ago and does not start now. my friend gets red ring from time to time but his still works. i've never gotten a red rign yet. i stand my system up vertically, I believe it allows the flow of air to circulate better through the unit, being vented all around. Everyon i know always lays thier 360 horizontally and they've had the red ring of death. i think when you lay it flat it traps more heat in the unit since it doesnt get very good ventilation under the system. It does have ventilation holes on the bottom of the unit, but small and few. And since that's where the motherboard and cpu are, that's the last place where you want heat to build up. So I would suggest to prolong the life of your x-box 360, to definately buy the cooling fan attachment and stand it vertically in an open area and not in an enclosed area with poor ventilation, because you want to get as much air circulation as possible.. and the cooler the air the better. Keeping electronics in a cabinet or an enclosed space, especially with other electronics tends to generate a good amount of heat and it would also be a good idea to clear/clean vents and fans with a can of compressed air every 2 weeks or once a month( depending how much dust you get in your house). You dont want dust building up in the vents or any of the hardware because it will only trap more heat. By the way i work on computerized equipment and large appliances so i have some knowledge on these things. It's up to you what you do with your x-box or where you store it, this is merely a suggestion . I hope it helps :)

I've had mine for about a year and a half and aside from a few "Disc Read Errors", it's been fine.

The disc tray was jammed, i forced it open, and forced it shut, and now it wont read disc. I'm buying a core and keeping my hard drive.Just a tip, NEVER let your friends play your 360 when you're napping.

Mine is perfect. Just don't leave it on at night or play for like 7 hours straight and your fine.

I lost one to the red ring of death, and another to a malfunctioning...everything. I take good care of my equipment too. It seems to just be a luck thing.

I went through 3 of them since launch date. The first one died within a year, and the second a few months ago. The third one is still kicking, but it freezes my game sometimes. The most recent time being the cutscenes in Naruto.

Nope because I took it back in 3 days before it had a chance. Though it did freeze when I was playing oblivion.

I've been through three standard X-Box consoles and all three developed loading issues. I wash the game, spin the game, reset the game... repeat as needed. It reminds me of the old days, blowing the dust off of 8 bit NES games.

I have been through 2 of them since the release. One i sent back to microsoft, the other i popped open and did the x clamp mod with new thermal paste. It worked. I rewired the fan to 12v too and have had no issues. It seems that one i worked on loads faster too. Maybe just me but i think so
