When it comes to developing multimedia stuff (2d or 3d) I greatly prefer desktop because its a lot faster that laptops. I'm not saying that laptops are weak or something, its just that performance comes with greater amount of cash on laptops than desktop computer.

Can I say both? :( Seriously, they both have their perks. I love the portability of laptops, naturally. Not that I really go that many places, but, it does make it convenient to be able to pick up and carry around the house as I please. The downside is that even when I've bought really expensive laptops, they seem to have a shorter lifespan than desktops and never have as much power. (I'm sure if I had an Alienware machine, I'd change my mind, but I don't have *that* much cash to drop into a computer at present.)Desktops, I dunno....since I'm home 99% of the time anyway, the portability issue isn't *that* big a deal to me since I'm almost always in my room. Plus, I grew up building computers with my dad (he owned a small computer business) and they were all desktops - I can still open up just about any desktop tower and swap out anything and everything in there easily, whereas I wouldn't know anything about opening up a laptop. (I haven't yet done it, and I refuse to make one of my laptops the guinea pig...) Even lower-end desktops seem to be capable of more power than laptops, and less prone to overheating. However, they *do* use up more electricity (and with electricity costs going for what they are these days, that's a definite drawback...)So I dunno. Ideally I think I'd like to have one of both at the same time. I could use my desktop for the heavy duty stuff - video editing, serious gaming, etc - and use my laptop for the more everyday tasks.

I like desktops more. I guess the pros of a laptop would be the portability, but I don't trust batteries all that much; especially when I am doing something important.

I still have to go with a good old desktop computer. I like not having to worry about it when i'm away from it. With a laptop, that will always be going with you, but i don't have a need for a mobile computer. Unless i'm getting a business job that requires me to carry a computer with me "on the go". I will admit though, i would also get a laptop purely for the space on the hard drive. I've noticed more recently that newer laptops are getting very big on hard drive space. Like i said before though. The only other reason i wouldn't get a laptop is because of it's battery dependence.

I have a laptop since I also need a work computer. It's not the best for gaming, but if it can play games like Cave Story and other freebies then I'm fine. Was very disappointed to see that it doesn't handle Terraria well, but if I get around to purchasing a desktop then it'd be nice, but if I'm not gaming on my laptop I'm using my DS or Wii.

Laptop, because I can play whenever I want, and I have ultimate privacy because my parents can't see me or tell me to get off

Desktops, because they have bigger storage spaces to store all those games and still run. But I need my laptop if I'm on the go, though... I can't set up a desktop everywhere...

I wonder how many people here would be appalled that I use a macbook instead of a laptop? I use my desktop less for browsing and more for gaming... so it gets my weekend usage while my macbook (I'm on it now :P) get's all my weekday usage.

I bought a Toshiba !8" laptop 2 years ago and it was the best investment I ever did. Would never go back to a desktop now.

Laptops are much more appealing to me considering that I usually need to use a computer device in class and is therefrore a neccessary item. Also you can move the laptop around the house and are not confined to a single space when using it.

Desktops of course. They are more stable, can handle more, last longer as well. I don't see why anyone would want a laptop over a desktop unless they are on the move all the time.

Probably many people have already said that it would depend, and for me it would be the same. It would all depend on the situation, if I was staying home then I would love a desktop, but if it was about portability then of course the laptop would be the best, but sine I have a laptop with a broken fan, anything would be better than this 4 year old 99.1 gb hard drive piece of junk

A laptop as long as it is a good one that is going to last and won't die or start running slow after a years of using it.
I'd much rather a more expensive laptop that will last long than a cheaper computer that will last long too just for the
conveniance of being able to use it anywhere and game anywhere

It really depends on your situation and your needs. Just remember that "Desktops", "Laptops", "Tablets", and etc have to suit your needs. With that in mind, I usually only need a Desktop because I rarely need a computer for travel, and my computer at the house is all I really need.
