japanese's think they can fly, americans think they can drive though a wall, and finns (us) think they can watch salatut elämät named tv-show. but japenese movies totally rules, especially kung-fu hustle. anime's the best afterall (not so much flying without wings there :))

I thought that while Curse of the Golden Flower was beautiful, the story dragged out forever. I loved Battle Royale, however...

These aren't anime, but I'd recommend Onmyouji and Onmyouji II - two of my most favorite movies. ^^

Maybe try Azumi? Taiyou no Uta moive would be good too. But for Azumi I + II, I think on stage version might have been better.

I recently saw Tony Takitani (based on the short story written by Haruki Murakami). I loved it but it's more of a slow-paced artsy movie. I would recommend this to those who enjoy those type of movies. I've also been meaning to watch After Life (Wandafuru Raifu) by director Koreeda Hirokazu but I haven't had time yet. I've grown to love Koreeda's films after watching Nobody Knows. :D

Any Studio Ghibli movie is great. I recently watched 1 Litre of Tears, it was probably the saddest movie I have ever seen, it was also based off a true story.I think another good one is Crying Out From the Center of the World, or something along those lines.

The Japanese Samurai movies are great, if you ever get the chance to watch any from the series of 'Lone Wolf and Cub' I'd recommend watching them. I think they're also referred to as 'Baby Cart in ...', the one that comes to mind is Baby Cart in Hades. These movies are just full of the ridiculous gore and spraying blood.

I think Japanese horror movies are worth watching. They are definitely scarier than hollywood movies.

I like some of the Studio Ghibli films, like Kiki, Whispers of the Heart, Totoro, and others. However others like Howl's Moving Castle (a poor adaptation of the book--it didn't have to be exactly like the book, but it should have at least been as entertaining), Pom Poko, The Cate Returns, etc. I don't like so much.As for their live action movies, I really like Onibaba and Seven Samurai (I wanted to see this one after seeing the anime "Samurai Seven" and was pleased at how much better it was). I also like Crying Out Love, In The Center Of The World.

If you're a dog person, the japanese(or is it korean?) movie 'Quill' would be good. It's pretty nice. If not, go for the Naruto ones.

I'd have to say one of the more surreal Japanese flicks I've ever seen was Survive Style +5. Just an odd movie, through and through. And while not Japanese the Korean movie OldBoy, was a good one. If you want a creepy psychological thriller.
