Whenever I find myself in front of the TV screen playing a videogame, it's always a classic like a PS One game. I personally believe that videogames are continuously going downhill. Why? Because all people care about nowadays are graphics. Graphics, graphics, graphics. They don't care about gameplay anymore. Gameplay has gotten slower and slower since the old days. Don't believe me? Play a PS2 game or few, then go back and play a PS One or N64 game. You'll see how much incredibly faster the old games are. Back in the day, game creators cared about how beautiful their games looked. They would give us a gorgeous nature background to look at while we're playing. But now, all anyone cares about is how real it looks. If it's in a gloomy, run-down sewer with no colorfulness, it doesn't matter as long as it looks real. And it seems like every new game I've played has that kind of environment. This is a little biased sinced I'm a very old-school type person. But, I just find older videogames to be much better that anything new.

Games are easy nowadays....far too easy.

I'd have to agree. Way back when all the developers were trying out the formulas, trying to see which ones worked and which ones didn't. Now that they've figured it out, all we're getting are the same old things, rehashed with graphics to rival the real world.Seriously. Perhaps the PS1/n64 was the golden age of gaming.

You have your point, you know about games, i personally think games should be criticize by their age too,an old one should be criticize in evrything but graphics the new ones in everything. You know it's a shame most people see the game by their graphics or if there was a movie about them they automatically see the game is good.

This is purely opinionated sure most games are getting worse but we still have a lot of quality content. Most of that content is fps and tps games not many good rpgs.

Ughh, i hate the people that think games are getting worse. The majority of video games have always sucked and will continue to always suck. Nostalgia seems to make people stupid

The problem is that there are more games being rushed and not being treated properly by developers aka more shovelware. The great games are still there, just not as much or often :P

Ya, games aren't gaining anything new, and true, they are getting too damn easy too (I remember doing 00 Agent fast times on Goldeneye, ah, those were the days), but, as you can see by things like the Wii and the DS, games are getting more interactive. I think, eventually, we'll have virtual reality. Whether or not that will be fun I don't know, but it will be a new dimension of gaming at least. Also, people these days are too damn ignorant to even touch a Super Nintendo. They won't even play the roms. But they WILL play an older game if they can pay $5-10 for them (X-BOX marketplace). People are stupid that way.

Now with this I agree. Graphics are always the norm with newer games but that's what people are always going for ever since games have been thought of another medium to portray a story like a movie. And you don't find many who will complain about the graphics of newer games (Just ask any super robot fans who have seen their favorite robots not moving since the era of SRW F and have loved the alpha series in being able to move the mechs other parts). But with games being easy, that's what I have seen recently in a lot of RPG games. Yet again, this hardly doesn't seems so. Try playing MS saga and you'll be really challenged by the difficulty of the game. I'm speaking with limited references here though. Show me a better game from the playstation era that could best any PS2 games Wolfenstein.

it really depends... If u are talking about PS1, i totally agree... But nowadays handhelds and PS2 & 3 are good. Example the DS emulator, its gettin good. Same goes with the Ps. But if u're talking about GBA and PS1, that's really a different story. The graphics sucks, sounds like **** and everythin else is bad....

You can thank the merger of Hollywood and videogames for that.. Games have been dumbed down for a general audience just like a sit com on TV ( that by the way is written on a 5th grade reading level.. and yes that includes the beloved show "Friends") Creativity has been removed due to a general formula that makes the money. Independant gaming on the web is where it is at now... sad really

I do agree with some people and I hate the type of gamer that judges a game by its graphics. Now I do not think that all new games are bad in fact the reason that there is rants about this is because there are so many game developers making newer games that you don't really know which ones to buy. But I do think all new games are getting shorter in total game length.

Well as time goes on, developers decides to try something new. Such as the new pokemon games. It comes in 3d now which might relief the boredom from all those 2d games ya played

yeah, games are becoming 21st century movies, and they are inheriting all of their flaws, specially their lack of polish and quality in general. games are expensive products that must be sold to as many people as possible, the old "games for gamers" paradigm is dead and buried.about graphics and old games, (imho) good graphics means doing a good job with your limitations, i remember amazing landscapes in snes made with sprites and limited palettes and resolution.right now i only see games that look a bit better than previous games but that require twice as much computational power to run properly. the absurd is when i see this poor performance being welcomed because it reassures the buying of way too expensive graphics cards and consolesi have an old low end computer and the only console i use is a ds, so i'm ignoring the "next gen" altogether. i dont really care, there are lots of really good games that work perfectly in my computer

Nintendo really hasn't cared as much about graphics as much as all the others. Just take a look at the Wii.

creativity and gameplay should be the main focuses on a developers mind but nowdays far too much emphasis is placed on graphics. dont get me wrong i love sitting down and playing a game with amazing graphics just the same but the majority of the time the gameplay is often overlooked.

I'm not sure what you mean by "that could best any PS2 games Wolfenstein", but Goldeneye automatically wins. Also, FF7 too.

I want to address another misconception. Games aren't any easier nor were the games any harder back then. Most games had artificial difficulty back then due to the limits of technology. There were a lot of games that were made to be hard on purpose by being totally unfair. Now games ease you into it a lot better and it works. Of course, some games just kick your ass since they're that awesome, like every NG game ever and the SMT series.

Maybe you're just getting older, plus if you play 90 games a year, chances are a lot of them are going to be bad. Just play a few select good games, develop some other hobbies, start a video game website where you have to post on their forums to download stuff... learn about facsim, its fun!
