I think its mostly the company's that make the games that are getting lazy, Look at Modern Warfare, It was an awesome game but then they made mw2 and just fcked it up so much, and the only reason they made it was to milk money off the success of the first one.

why not however? We should consider the amount of good games made up already. If it isn't another game that the same type as another, it's a game most people won't play. All the good ideas have been taken, (well not all, but a lot of them assuming a limitless amount of good ideas). The thing about games is that, people like what they know they like or is good. as time passes, people become less and less open to new ideas => new games. If the games are getting worse- it's just that we're getting bored of the classics- the games aren't bad, just we got more picky. only a biasless robot can tell what a good game is and what a bad one is. people have too many opinions, which shift depending on what else comes out.games seem easier only 'cause we got better at predicting and skill level physically increased. games are the same or better, we just can't notice...

Games definitely aren't getting worse. Heavy Rain is the best experience I've had in a looong time. I think everyone just let themselves get a bit jaded as they got older.

I would have to agree. One of the games I like happens to be a playstation 1 game. It is Legend of the Dragoon.....and it is old just by graphics...but I love that game.

Whenever I find myself in front of the TV screen playing a videogame, it's always a classic like a PS One game. I personally believe that videogames are continuously going downhill. Why? Because all people care about nowadays are graphics. Graphics, graphics, graphics. They don't care about gameplay anymore. Gameplay has gotten slower and slower since the old days. Don't believe me? Play a PS2 game or few, then go back and play a PS One or N64 game. You'll see how much incredibly faster the old games are. Back in the day, game creators cared about how beautiful their games looked. They would give us a gorgeous nature background to look at while we're playing. But now, all anyone cares about is how real it looks. If it's in a gloomy, run-down sewer with no colorfulness, it doesn't matter as long as it looks real. And it seems like every new game I've played has that kind of environment. This is a little biased sinced I'm a very old-school type person. But, I just find older videogames to be much better that anything new.

its true after the third sequel it just sucks like paper mario oldschool games are just amazing and its true that everyone just wants graphics

Games aren't getting worse the tastes are just changing, they have this same argument with anime that the new stuff is worse then the old stuff and it's complete bs. You can't live in the past forever, and they make games for pretty much every demogrpahic nowadays. Just find something you like in the sea of games that are out there.

There is nothing wrong with liking the old school games. But, I do agree with the fact that people only seem to mention about how good a game looks. Yeah, but, does it handle well? Does the story make sense? Is it fun to play? Yeah, what can you do?

i've played a few fps and I've been bored of mw because of blood and blood 2, postal 2 make me far more interested in the story. i know that the games i listed are old and have aged out of this era but i had alot more fun with seiken densetsu 3, chrono trigger for SNES,earthbound and the twisted adventures of spike mcfang compared to bio shock( graphics and a large story that doesn't have enough power). i like bio shock but the basics are always in my heart.

Here is the basic Ideaology:A Staff signs with a company to make a game. They use all this time to gather up ideas, more members and debug the kinks out the game. When released,it becomes a hit for about a year. Examples are Fire Emblem, Pokemon between The Region intros, Final Fantasy, and CoD. People begin to expect the developers to produce another game very soon and become antsy and clues.Examples are the wait for PKMN HGSS from 04 to now.The Announce the game's release which is really EARLIER than they wanted to really release it or even at all. Finally they come out with a game and its not what you wanted but you can live with it.You wait a few months for a year before the next game in the series comes out and that game is like WTF? Its not the developers fault.its the consumers who demand more games faster and faster.

Ughh, i hate the people that think games are getting worse. The majority of video games have always sucked and will continue to always suck. Nostalgia seems to make people stupid

For the most part, I agree with you. Especially on the nostalgia part. For instance, I think most people pretend to have liked Power Rangers at some point. I watched it when I was younger, and I didn't have a single goddamn clue what was going on besides sparks flying whenever someone got punched. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's automatically goodIt seems as though some gamers are in distress merely because their favorite hobby is in the mainstream now, and I don't see any problem with this. The more attention gaming gets in mainstream media, the more money the developers can make. Surely this will lead to exploitation the industry and games that are made solely for profit (ie, EA and Activision) but if that means games like COD4 and Half-Life 2 will be made, that's a small price to pay. Having said that, since gaming has shifted focus from the niche to mass appeal, games haven't become "worse" by any definition but they certainly have become easier. I believe that everyone should suffer like I did when I was 4 years old and beat Super Mario World without any stupid Luigi Super Guide option, but I digressThe lowered difficulty curve has been a target for message board ire for awhile now and I think that's why some are woefully misguided to believing that the games industry is decadent. After all, easier games make the medium more approachable to new adopters and this trait is concomitant with gaming's increasing presence in the mainstream. However, we can't just go back to the days of Mega Man X. While that was an awesome game, there's so much more potential that can be tapped with newer technology. I can play that game only so many times until I ask for something more recent, something that can show for how much Capcom has learned since then. In short, elitism is the bane of progress. People just need to accept the fact that the industry will change, whether they like it or not. You want Duck Hunt? Go f#%k off to your NES, thenLastly, graphics. From a technical standpoint, without graphics, there would be no videogame (so don't gimme that YOU NEED GRAPHICS TO PLAY s#!t. That logical fallacy is played out, lemme tell you). From an aesthetic standpoint, graphics can add an immersion factor to a game, such as Far Cry; part of that experience is to feel like you're actually in the game. Not much is lost if a game looks outdated (ie, Left 4 Dead has awesome gameplay) and I have yet to come up with any examples of "bad graphics" detracting from a gaming experience. If you have any, please present them to me. I play video games to have fun, not to fap to high polygon counts. If realistic graphics were actually crucial to a gaming experience, would we still be playing Super Mario Bros. and Diablo II?
