Rpgs can be awesome if done right. I personally like them better, but I guess other game types have their good points too.

RPGs own MMOs because an MMO is designed so that you have to play a lot to get anywhere

I'm interested in knowing one thing: can you please provide a source for where you saw that MMORPGs are the most popularly played genre in the world? While it's certainly believable, I am just curious to see the article or chart or whatever that you got that from. Now, I realize you're probably not here right now, considering this is over 2 weeks old, but still would be nice to see. =pOh, and I think MMORPGs are usually pretty boring. RPGs can generally boring games anyway, gameplay-wise, and are heavily driven by story. MMORPG on the other hand has both monotonous gameplay AND a severe lack of story. I tend to like action RPGs or RTS games (Heroes of Mana is cool for me with the RPG/RTS mix) because they get you a little more involved and active than you would normally be. While MMORPGs can get you active, a lot of it still seems to be based on just leveling up a bunch and fighting the same things a bunch, sometimes having to gather together a team and coming up with a quick strategy to take down a tough boss (only once in a while). I used to play MMORPGs but haven't in quite a while.

i think mmorpgs are the most generic games ever, think of the doom fenomenon of the 90´s, they are all the same but with diferent pressentation, about "normal" rpgs, i dont like them, usually there is a lot of grinding and i havent played one with an "awesome" storyline (the closer thing would be chrono trigger, buts its all about saving the world, and didnt have enought char. development).... Bonus Track: its a shame he is not gonna answer me back

Depends on the MMO you play, the ones I like have competitive PvP, which has a lot more depth than any over game with a versus mode. Some are based purely on killing NPC's though, which are quite, quite lame. Really though the game depends on the people you're playing it with, not so much as the game. When I used to play World of Warcraft, I had a good buddy of mine play a class much different from my own, and we made an excellent team: killing off horde like a lawnmower. Good times that was, very good times.

there's mainly two types, the one that's a base character that u play with many others and do group things (World of Warcraft or GuildWars) and the other type is the one where ur able to customize ur character to just the way u like it, where u get more into the feeling of just chatting with people (Maple Quest).I like the free ones =P

Though I do like MMORPG's, I dont play them often. Usually once you get into a game like that you tend to play it too much, or just eventually forget about it and lose your char., stats, etc. I enjoy playing RPG's like the FF series games though, 'cause they're based around a storyline throughout the game.

I personally prefer to play the traditional single player RPGs but I will not deny that there are great advantages to MMORPGs which could never be reached by standard ones. Most notably is character and world development. In a single player RPG there's only so much you can do. Once you complete the main quest as well as all bonus/side ones (if any), then what? All that time powering up and making your way through will just sit idle on your memory card or cartridge until you decide to begin again. In other words, when the game ends, that's it. There's nothing to do further and it's not like you can use your awesome powerful characters in other games. However, MMORPGs remedy this problem as they can be readily expanded (or at least the better ones like word of warcraft can). This means there is no end to the adventure and you can probably power up your character up forever. In addition, there's the interactive aspect which is lacking in standard RPGs. You can't go on with a pile of friends on different computers/consoles, team up, and play together. So yeah, even though I'm limited to these standard RPGs due to internet connection and lack of available funds to spend on this kind of stuff, I have to admit, MMORPGs are the way to go and certainly part of the reason why a popular series like final fantasy that was single player for so long decided to try out the MMORPG world.

I think RPG's are alot better then MMO's because they are ultra repetitve with no plot, and there is always some ass tryin gto spoil your fun on MMO's. I think the most popular genre would probably be FPS at the moment though. My favourite Genre is Platform though.
