I highly doubt this would have happened if it weren't for that fact that Sega stopped making systems and moved soley into game development (though they probably still make certain arcade units which is something they are excellent at doing). Me personally, I did live during the console war times and I did know someone who was a loyal nintendo fan and despised Sony and Sega systems. The only sign of sonic on a nintendo system was this sonic hack for some game on SNES which I don't count because it obviously wasn't produced by Sega itself. Nevertheless, the merge went well to me and I do see some quality games from sega appearing on the GBA at least (I don't have a wii or gamecube so I don't know if any were for that). Then again, a part of me likes to hang on to the classics and I didn't embrace titles such as shining soul and the sonic advance series right away (especially sonic advance 2 and 3 as they were both way too linear with little opportunity for open exploration). I do think sega is limiting itself to nintendo though. I've yet to see a sega game on playstation 2 or 3 but on the other hand, I'm not nearly as familliar with their game libraries as I was with anything older than PS1.

There are sonic games on the PS2 which are shadow the hedgehog, sonic racers (Not the sega saturn version), Sonic heroes and sonic gems if I remember correctly. Nintendo looks as if they have exclusive right for sonic but that's because there were no other successful handheld system like the gamecube (N-gage came out around this time), but then again, they did have the rereleased sonic adventure 2 on the gamecube. Otherwise it's not surprising that sonic and mario got together in one game since sega threw the towel at the time the dreamcast era was over (in america and not in japan that is).

Well it does feel quite weird, but it is quite cool, because now we might have a chance to see who would win out of sonic and mario. SONIC 4 :sniper: BRAWL!

I feel like a conspiracy theorist when I tell people how I feel about Sonic on the Nintendo, but here goes nothing! I'm sure that everyone is aware of how Sonic was Sega's mascot at one time and during this time was engaged in intense rivalry with Nintendo and indirectly, their mascot Mario. Sonic was a little edgier and geared more towards a teenage audience whereas Mario was a little more family friendly (which is probably why Mario is still so popular today). Anyways, the point is that the rivalry between Nintendo and Sega was intense. Here's where my conspiracy theory comes in: when Nintendo took ownership of Sega, it was a chance for them to get back at them and to push Sonic down. Thus why his games have taken a nose dive in both popularity and quality. So admittedly, when I see Sonic on the Nintendo systems I cringe a little. I think that they could have used the chance to build Sonic up and make more money from his games rather than keeping him down. I hate seeing Sonic on the Nintendo systems. I like Nintendo as a company, but in this case, I don't think it works.
