Apparently not. A lot of people with money have killed themselves.

happiness comes in a variety of sizes, colors, and flavors. having money is one of those. is it the best? no. is it the worst? far from.

To answer this, 'happiness' must be defined. Is it the chemicals in your brain reacting? Is it a more metaphysical concept as just a feeling? Is it the events, ideas, or objects that make you happy? Is it fleeting, or a state of mind? Is it the opposite of sadness, or just the lack thereof? Moreover, what can money buy? Does it have to be an item or object? Can it be broadened to say "Can you use money to obtain happiness?"? Well, one could certainly use money to buy things that make them happy in most of the aforementioned definitions. But one could also simply steal those things too. Having stolen it might, in fact, make one happier from the rush and feeling of success obtained through theft. And then there is always the possibility of receiving such things as a gift, and gaining more happiness from the fact that someone cares. Theoretically, anything that you can do with money, you can also do with your own two hands, so money isn't actually required to do anything except the act of spending it. So barring that, one could say that money is not the only way to gain happiness, if it can at all. Of course, there are things that you could do with your own hands that you couldn't do with money. Namely, the act of doing those things. you could use money to win a contest, but you couldn't use it to buy the experience of winning that contest yourself. So in the end, it all boils down to what makes you happy. Although, in my opinion, everyone short of a Buddha can gain happiness from some material possession, which can be bought with money. So yes, I believe that money can buy happiness to some extent.

I'm going to say yes just for the fact that we don't have any money. Living pay check to pay check sucks. I would love to have the extra spending money to just go out and enjoy a meal that didn't come from a box/can or purchase an item just for the hell of it. I'm sure money won't buy everlasting happiness, but it will most definitely lift my mood for quite a while. I remember when I still lived with my parents... No bills, no expenses, no worries. I went out and spent $200 to celebrate a .25 raise in my pay check! Now I can't even "treat" myself to fast food without figuring out my bills for the next three months to see if I can afford it.

I dont think it can buy complete happiness - just temporary. But a friend of mine thinks it can.

well i think there are multiple kinds of happyness.. now money can fill NEARLY all of them but not quite all of them.

No, because after you've spent it all, there's still a sense of emptiness.

Most studies show that money doesn't improve one's happiness nearly so much as a proper social environment, a steady job (whether or not it earns a lot) and an animal to care for. However, it does help, doesn't it? :)

Money can buy happiness. We think about getting electronics as happiness, but think of poor people around Thanksgiving or Christmas. Just giving a few bucks to a food bank helps. So yes, money does buy happiness, but not complete happiness.

Absolutely no. Money can give you anything but not happiness. I remember a song from a local band from my country that say "A humble living without any possession but with a lot of love is better than a luxurious living with everything in possession but without love."

i dont believe so. i think you have a really low life altogether if u have to rely on green paper to keep yourself happy. happiness is not bought it is given. and only other people can give it to you.

it depends on what kind of lifestyle you have. if you're a nice person and don't have an atittude of superiority, you can still have true friends, love etc.

One can't buy happiness. Sure you can buy yourself presents and feel better afterwards but if you are not content with your life for whatever reason, it'll only be a temporarily happiness. It's not that one needs to have friends, a big family, a house, a car..or whatever is said to make one happy. One needs to find out for oneself what happiness means for one's heart and act accordingly. Only then one can be happy.
