No, It can't but it can make you happy.... sometimes. :psy: especially when you are a really materialistic person, or when it's your first time to get some payment from your first job. Money can make you happy when you share it. So share some with me if you like to so that you can be happy. But no, really. Money is only for material things and for your practical needs. Happiness can never be bought, you are supposed to look for it. That's what I think though.

Sometimes money can make people more upset because people will think your giving them just to keep the person quiet.

i dont think money can buy happinessat times because there might be certain things a person would want from you instead of money so you will need to give respect.

money has led several people to do things they would never do, allow several things that never should be uttered and if you want to know how you can stay happy and have enough money i set a limit to how much money i allow myself to have and stay happy with it and the bank which cheats you the less will always hold the extra money.

No, money can not buy happiness. Unfortunately in today's society, it's pretty hard to imagine happiness without a comfortable source of money. Although I know happiness doesn't come from money, I would hate being poor (unless I chose to be so).Not quite a paradox, but a tricky situation nevertheless...

Money can literally do anything for you. Buy happiness? Probably you can buy some sort of drug and you'll actually be happy. So yes.

Money makes happiness a lot easier to get, I suppose, if you equate happiness with contentment. If you have money, you can buy the things you want, for the most part, and you can remove a lot of stress that people without money have, like worry about the bills and day to day life. So, I guess I would say that money does not necessarily purchase happiness, but it makes happiness cheaper. I guess you just have to ask, what's happiness worth?

Money can give one freedom to enjoy life even more BUT what are money worth if you have a crap-life without friends, family and an enjoyable job.

true it can i mean not having a phone kind of sucked and with money i was able to get a phone and life is better i guess it depends if you live your childhood with just an average amount of money or less and you make a lot of money that can really make you happy for a while but if you have always had money then you don't enjoy it as much

Of course it can! Money can buy anything, even love, if you use it right. that doesn't mean "BUY JENNIFER A 478435894893488043 THOUSAND DOLLAR RING!" But by providing you with the things you need to impress someone. Only people who say it can't are spoiled or stupid.

KHRS has a point - money can certainly make it easier for someone to be happy, more so than having no money at all. As long as one keeps in mind that money is a means to happiness rather than an end, the happiness itself, life can be fulfilling. If someone is just accumulating money for the sake of having lots of money, with no intention of using it to better his or her or anyone else's lives, though, he or she can lose sight of what's important.

What KHRS and maus said. You will NEVER see a happy bum. EVER. Unless he's doped up on something. Its a fact, deal with it. So, yes. Money does buy happiness. Not directly, obviously, but it opens doors for you that could not be opened otherwise.

I'd say money only buys happiness when you become aware that those possibilities are there. Happiness, in my opinion, depends less on what you have, and more on your ability to be happy, which is usually coupled with the ability not to be aware that you want to be happy. A poor man who doesn't know he's poor isn't necessarily an unhappy man.

So ignorance is bliss, eh? That kind of reminds me of the argument that someone cannot be happy and knowledgeable about the world around him or her at the same time. It's like, the more you know about what money can get you, the more unhappy you are when you don't have enough, right?Or maybe it's an issue of whether or not you have the mindset that you need things to be happy. Then we could get into the whole issue of consumerism giving rise to wants that manifest into artificial needs - you need a car, you need a media player, you need a computer, when in actuality you could get by with none of those things, but then you would feel that you are at a disadvantage, that you are impoverished compared to the common man who has all these things and more. From that perspective, if we were to ask whether money can buy happiness, it would depend on the individual, maybe? The Henry David Thoreaus of the world are happy to live a simple life in a cottage they built at minimum cost, living off the land and basking in the glow of the setting sun beside a pond with a nice book. But the rich CEO - or the lowly temp who aspires to have his position some day - needs a fast car, expensive champagne, a ritzy condo and all the newest, shiniest gadgets. These are exaggerated models, of course, but the idea is the same.

I would say you can only be happy when you aren't worried about being happy. I would further say that the extremely rich and the extremely poor (particularly in urban environments) have the most problems with this.I wouldn't say ignorance is bliss, because there's nothing scarier and upsetting than a situation that you're clueless about, but you sometimes need to be.... less aware of everything.

I would normally agree with Calvin, rather than maus. In my personal experience happiness and contentment, while not being one and the same, frequently go hand-in-hand. However I do not believe I am experienced enough in people and personality types to lay this down in concrete. Perhaps there are people who require a certain level of material goods in order to be happy. Perhaps they do become genuinely quite happy, rather than increasingly needy, upon the acquisition of such goods. Maybe the aspiration of such things (and their achievement) in itself is the catalyst for happiness, rather than the goods themselves. Man often needs aims to be satisfied, and these provide decent ambitions with which to occupy lives with. Despite these I would personally rather stay away from the "rat race" than get caught into it.
