has anybody ever heard of the guy named Buckethead yeah hes pretty good.

Yeah yeah, righteous... you rock dude... BH is great...BUCKETHEAD, he's an awesome guitarist, he had a sad life, a mysterious history, and a heck of a time with his mighty axe and his chicken army... he doesn't lay like MAB who's all like "Look at this guitar solo!", while Buckethead is "..." *Thinks to self (Life is so long, so I'm making this sad song...)*, lol...

For me it's a toss-up between Robert Cray, B.B. King, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Robert Johnson.

You can't choose one to be the best, every guitarist has his own style. I prefer Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead), Omar Rodríguez-López (The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In, De Facto), Sam Beam (Iron & Wine), Graham Coxon (Blur) and, of course, Jimi Hendrix.

Dimebag Darrell is the best. His solos may not have been fast as some shredders like Yngwie Malmsteen, but they were just awesome.

WAYYYYY to many amazing guitarists to choose one best. Like someone else mentioned, so many different styles and techniques of playing. Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page are probably my favorite just because they set the standard for so much good music that came after their time.

I mean... its not even about my opinion on this one... the best guitarist IS Eric Clapton. I'm not even a fan of Clapton, but my God, that mans got some skills. But as a guitarist, I idealize many great guitarist, for different reasons. My favorite would have to be Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine). I wouldn't call him the "best" guitarist in the world, but he is certainly top ten best modern day guitarists. I love him for his signature style of playing. I have yet to hear anyone play like him. He is so technical and a master of effects. He doesn't play a guitar like a guitarist, but like a DJ. I don't know, I just have a lot of respect for people who can flip the norm completely around. But someone please tell me why no one solo's like back in the day (Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, B.B. King). Where's the soul? Where's the passion? It seems that modern day guitarists like Synester Gates and Buckethead are all about speed. Since when does fast=good? Now don't get me wrong, they are very talented guitarists but there is no passion in their music which takes away from their greatness.

I'd have to go out there and say Andy McKee. The dude plays weird things on an acoustic. I dunno, I guess its not that special cos lots of people do it but hey, the man is a youtube star! And I just have to say John Petrucci as well. I can't listen to any bands that aren't called Dream Theater or Liquid Tension Experiment at the moment, so I guess maybe I'm biased... But he's tight, plays acousticy stuff, goes to shreddy shred mode, and then does nice sounding stuff while still being fat distorted...Oh, and I have to mention the Slash and the Tom Morello
