Steve Vai or Yngie Malmsteen, its a toss up between those two, they are amazing!!And to all those who say Herman Li is the best, he uses the same 4 frets and 2 strings, he just plays really fast! ;)

Remember kids, fast =/= bestJust because you can lay down 50 notes per second doesn't mean you're good.IMO what makes you good is the ability to capture the minds of your listeners. Do you ever just sit down and listen to a solo and get shivers? Yeah, that's good guitar skills you're hearing. Some of my personal favorites are Eric Johnson, Buckethead, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Stump, Michael Romeo, and Jeff Loomis

Most of what has been mentioned is agreeable, but I'm surprised I've not noticed anyone saying B.B. King. The guy is a legend! And, on a more recent note, Matt Bellamy. His techniques have made him a modern day legend :(

Dimebag Darrel for Pantera = Legendary.

Indeed, Dimebag Darrel was very good.Herman Li and Zach Wylde get honorable mentions.

I prefer Page 'n Slash to any others. I'm not really counting skill here, I'm counting on whether or not I like to listen to them. Clapton is okay, but Hendrix... the dude burned his guitar, man. That ain't right. Mind you, he did that after The Who trashed their instruments.
