I've always found that 2D ones hold my interest far more than the 3D. Is it just me, or are the combo engines of 3D games far more button-mashing and luck-based than the 2D counterparts? Give me Guilty Gear and M.U.G.E.N. over Soul Calibur (Though I like that series...).

2d all the way. Nowadays, they just make the 3d ones too complicated. Simple and effective is the way to go.

2d fighting games are the best, you guys want an example? Play guilty gear, this is the best fighting game I've ever played.
