The market for Video Games is in some cases even more fickle than it was 10 years ago. It's almost as fickle as the Trading Card Market. The younger your fan base tends to be, the more fickle the market, because of supply and demand. Kids don't have a whole lot of money, so eventually prices must go down to actually sell a product. Within 3 months of release, most games are less than half as expensive as they once were. Some more popular games can take years to depriciate in value more than 20-25%. Games from a series that is no longer made or from a publisher that no longer produces games actually sell for MORE, because they are considered in some small part "rare", because they are no longer made. That part of the market is also fickle though. it just goes up and down, up and down. With the basic knowledge of the VG Market, I can tell you that if you want a more popular game like Halo 2 or something for cheap? You're going to have to try eBay or something, because nobody is going to sell it for less than $35-40 (here in the US) for at least the next 6 months, if not longer. I honestly had no idea they charged so much out of the US. I think it has alot to do with novelty, being that most games are created in the States or in Japan/Asia. They obviously have been making games directly for other countries for quite some time, but the fact is that this market could still be considered a Novelty where you live. Novelties tend to sell for alot more, and that would explain horrendous prices. Sounds like it's getting to a point now, however, where it has stopped being a novelty. Not suprising considering how historically fickle (yes there I go using that word again) this market is.

Seems like High-street prices for specialised shops are back to charging at 40 quid a shot for a game, which I'm just not going to be suckered into.I've bought online since last September at a place that gives free delivery.

It takes alot of effort and time to make games so i really dont think they are too overpriced in the states. 100 dollars in australia though, now thats overpriced

Yah some games are over priced, but they aren't cheap here in the U.S either. Soem games cost $50 & some have stayed at $50 for like a full year & shops keep claiming it's a "new release"

Well games are going to seem overpriced because they have to make enough money to beat the piracy that is losing them money. Still, they can seem quite a lot because hte publishers get lots of the money, and then the shops that sell have to get some profit too.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. I understand why games are expensive, but for the average person there really is no room for errors when deciding what games to buy.
