The ESRB assumes that the children in question are unable to afford these games, and that they rely on their parents to pay. It is up to the parents to realize that their six-year-old should not be allowed to play Grand Theft Auto. The store has no responsibilty to point these things out to customers. You guys all seem think that the ESRB can prevent the selling of M or T rated game to children. It cant! All it can do is sugest to parets if its apropreit to buy for there child. Its up to the store to sell M games to chilldren or not!!!

This aint true. Some store might check you. And that store may require Id but tons dont. Xero you dont know what your talking about. -.-'Yes, of course it's needed! For M rated games, you must have an ID that shows you are over the age of eighteen to buy them. (They may not in some areas make you show them in some game stores but they make me even though they know me. And that's how it should be.)As for T rated games, they're not as bad, but I still wouldn't want my 6-year old brother playing Metroid Prime Hunters... he's violent enough as it is.In short, without the ESRB, most kids would be corrupted. (And I mean kids with THOUGHTFUL parents.)

But what if a child wants to buy a game like "Manhunt" or "GTA" are they just supposed to be allowed to purchase these and play them even if they are only thirteen years old, The restrictions are in place to protect are youth from inappropriate content. I mean take a look at all the copycats from the tv show "Jackass", That have been seriously injured or killed because of doing something they thought was funny or cool on a tv show that is on a popular network, Which is easily accessible. What happens if someone sees something in a game and tries to reenact it? Whos to blame? Because then its too late to do anything about it. And the reason why I bring this up is that if games do not have a "Rating" or restrictions then it would be the same as a child staying up and seeing those "Girls Gone Wild" commercials, Meaning that they would have easy access to something that they are most likely not ready for (even though most kids think they are)So yes, There should be age restrictions on all content, No matter if it is a tv show or a game, There has to be bars set, And I agree with you about parents should be a big factor in the restrictions, But most people are working long hours and are not always there to make sure their kids are doing the right thing.the ESRB is not completely unnecessary, but i think they are unnecessarily meddlesome. it should be up to the consumers (namely the parents buying these games for their kids) what they consider to be appropriate and inappropriate. but there shouldnt be buying restrictions opposed. consumers should be allowed to make choices for themselves.
