Just wanted to see what people here think....Personally, I've spent the entire portion of my life where I've had a computer using Windows and I've come to realize what many have said all along: Windows is crap. I just got the computer I'm on not even a year ago, with good hardware(DVD drive, CD burner, 512 MB RAM, etc.), and this piece of crap can barely handle anything. I try to load Photoshop, Photoshop freezes while loading. I try to play Daiblo 2 online, my connection drops tons of times or the game freezes. For the past two days, my internet connection has been on and off, and it says the cause is the Firewall on my computer, which is the Windows firewall. On the other hand, when I got the chance to try out my grandpa's brand new Apple iBook, it ran like a charm and it's got less than my computer does. Even the macs at school for computer graphics run photoshop better than my PC, and my PC has 4 times the RAM and a processor probably five times as fast. So, it's obvious I have to go with Macs here. So what if they cost more, they are more functional...What do you think??

yeah at the moment my problem is not having my own comp....my dad doesn't listen when I say Windows is glitchy and crappy....and apparently he never notices the amount of time I spend on here clearing out all the viruses and spyware....But luckily soon I'll either have my own, brand new iBook or eMac...and btw, it's not that hard to get used to teh Mac OS, I got it down two classes into my Computer Graphics class....

U know microsoft's excuse is that it's not becos microsoft is more glitchy, it's becos microsoft is much more tageted at by those ppl than other brand's stuff. That may be true but then microsoft aint really that efficient at clearing glitches too...juz to give u a geeral idea of both stands...But then again spyware and trojans wil be there whether u use linux or windows or mac, OS doesn't really have thatmuch to do with it...And if u r havig trouble with all that stuff:http://free.grisoft....eweb.php/doc/2/ -for the viruses andtrojanshttp://www.download....4-10301356.html -for the spyware

its not that I have trouble clearing it off, I have Norton Anti-Virus and Ad-Aware, both work great at it in fact....its just that I have perverted stepbrothers in my house...which is why I want my own computer...And besides, I was told that no major viruses really ever target Macs, and that makes sense, because when you think about it, the last few major viruses only were successful because they took advantage of holes in Windows...

I never really had too much of a chance to use a mac since I was a kid in school. So I would probably vote for windows since it is more widely used. But what are the big differences? Performance?

The only difference tha is truely big enough to matter is popularity. That's y windows gets targeted that much: it makes senseAnd that's y i dun use norton av, it's too popular too, it actually gets targeted by virus writers u know...

For one thing, the new Mac OS coming out soon, codenamed "Tiger"(I believe), is insanely smooth and functional. If anyone cares and has time, go to Apple.com and watch the Keynotes speech from MacWorld conference. The CEO actually demostrates a lot of cool new stuff. It totally blew me and my stepbrother away when we watched....

Windows has a lot more functionality, but if you don't care, I guess you can just get a Mac. It's a lot harder to find holes for a Mac just cuz the programming is a lot simpler and harder to manipulate *cough*. But if you're switching to a mac, you're going to have to give up a lot of your favorite games:http://www.ctrlaltde...date=2004-07-03

I would say Mac, but theres a lack of software development. If they made more things work on Macs i would use one. Until then, im stickin with windows.

Can you please explain how Windows is more functional, when it crashes and freezes often and Microsoft has to fix a security hole every other week? And besides, have you ever visited a computer store and checked the Game section? Quite a few recent games have Mac versions, and besides, all the games I play work on both Mac and Windows...

I've been using windows for as long as i can remember. Its fine. I dont plan to change it now. Sure it has some problems, but microsoft fixes them. I know its annoying to download the patches every time, but id rather do that than not do it at all.

4 of the computers in my house use XP. It runs fine on them, so far. One computer (An old laptop) runs DOS 6.22, and one computer runs Slackware Linux 9.1.

and btw, if Windows is soooo amazing for gaming, then how come my 2.7 Ghz, 512 RAM PC can't run Planetside w/o crashing, can't run Battlefield 1942 w/o being jerky, lagging, and being generally unresponsive, and even crashes on Diablo 2??

PC > Mac because Macs only have a 1-button mouse. :lol:Personally, I'm running a self-built PC (which is not really possible with a Mac) dual-booting Red Hat Linux and WinXP Pro. Both run perfectly for me, and my Windows PC is pretty safe with Mc-Affe Virus Scan, a firewall, Ad-Aware, and Firefox. Runs great for me.

Well, it isn't really so great, but if you don't want to format her PC every week, don't give her administrator privlidges on her PC.

in terms of graphics and and video editing, everyone seems to say that macs have the edge in that. If your a gamer (like me) Pc's are the way to go jus cuz most of the games are made for that system, i mean, they prollie look better on a mac, and are more stable, but some relaly good games just don't come out for it....that being said... my pc now officially looks like a mac =D so its like the best of both wordls... exept not....
