Although Materia was great, and I loved the Dress Spheres. My favourite was the Sphere Grid from FFX. It was just so kl cos you can teach anyone anything and i just think it's really kool.

The best is when the level goes up after a while of getting exp like in FF 7.

I really liked the dress sphere system and how it was similar to the weapon system in FF9. We had job classes and their abilities were diverse and unique so it felt like a whole new charachter whenever you switched.

Sphere grid made training that much less boring. and u cant actually notice your characters getting stronger either, its like they just kinda go un-noticed till you go and fight old enemies, and whoop em. if they made the grid even bigger, it would be that much better. sphere grid all the way!

You've missed too manyFF1 - level up and gain magic points to USE your spells you can buy Great system, nice and basic and anyone can pick it upFF2 - level your skills by doing it (like hit things to level strength) way to tedious and tiem cosnuming, yes you could UBER yourself RIGHT at the beginning but far too boring for my tastesFF3 - same as FF1 - damn good system once againFF4 - plain old level up - SIMPLE AS HELL and brilliant, made it less of a chore to level upFF5 - level jobs to swap abilities between them - damn good system, intricate yet simple FF6 - level up as normal, gan spells from ap with espers equipped, a slight twist on gaining abilities and stuff as you go, different ways to learn abilities per characters made it interestingFF7 - materia - nice system, good double edged sword but in end game, magic became pointless cos attack could do so much more started amazing, got Shyte as you wentFF8 - junctioning - fantastic system, VERY double edged and required some thought, nice way to apply status to defence or attack and a good way to learn abilities via ap through equipped gf's, kinda like ff6 with something new, drawing your magic was good to (no more mp, just AMOUNTS of spells you could cast - damn good)FF9 - learn abilities from items, annoyign int hat you had to GET the equipment to learn the abilities on, and that meanst you had to go back to shtie equipment just to learn an ability sometimes, but for the most part a very nice systemFFX - sphere grid was damn good but i didnt like the fact that in teh end, every character could learn anything, left no individuality between characters which was pointless really, left it all down to limit breaks (i refuse to call them overdrives) started good, ended SHITEFFX-2 - good system, changign dresspheres an dlearning abilities, it was esentially a glossy FF1/3/5 but still quite niceFFXI - learn stuff as you level up, meant you couldn't uber yourself, but FAR to time consuming, especially having to level your weapon seperately, and if you wanted to level several weapons it got boring.

FF1's system isn't quite the same as FF3 and 5... it's quite a stretch since you can't change class in the middle of the game or anything. That said, I love the Job system of FF3, FF5, and FFX-2 though it isn't quite the same. I thought materia sucked.

the basic system was tho - just level up as you go, and buy spells. Ok ff3 added to that you could change classes midway but you would start with no magic for certain classes unless you'd already learnt some, ff5 again in that you could change abilities from another, but he was on about the leveling system, not how the jobs worked blah blah lol.

Worst. Leveling. Ever.Esper system, then Materia system then, class changing (not the lame dress-spheres) system.

The materia system was the best because anyone could be a healer, a summoner, or your powerhouse.

you gotta love the classic RPG level up system especially when the stats can change for every level eg STR can go up 3 one level and it might not go up the next.

Of the list i liked the way you built up spells via materia but my personal favorite way of a lvling up system in general is exp from killing monsters then when you hit the lvl threshhold you can customize where you want a certain amount of points spent on atributes or skills.

i dont know about you, but ive had the game for a couple years now, and just playing it every now n then, ive gotten my characters wicked strong. yuna, auron, tidus, wakka and rikku have basically filled the entire grid, but i dont notice a lack of individuality. i still use tidus for certain things like casting haste and doing most of his earlier techinques, rikku i still use as a theif, yuna and summoning anima, just cause he is wicked strong and so on... so i just got in a habit of using each character for something, and it just stuck even though they all have the same stuff now.

I thought the materia system was the best from 7, cause you could simply customise your characters how you wanted. The sphere grid annoyed me though. I did the hard version and got my pieces lost... :P

I believe the Final Fantsy XII system and The Fianl Fantasy IX system r the best, In Final Fantasy XII u can customize a caharacter exactly wat u want and there is nothin sayin tat a female charcter can have a large sword like Excalibur or a male charcter have a typically female weapon like a Bow, and Final Fantasy IX's equip and attain techniques was great!!!
