I stopped using floppies since I am getting away from the only thing I needed them for, driver installation while doing Windows installs (I had an IDE extension card for having 4 HDs in my computer). I do have a USB one around just in case it's needed, but I pretty much USB hard drives, pen drives, and flash cards are the way to go now. More storage space, faster media, and cheaper/(MB/GB).

Ohhh. CoCo, commie, or what?

Its a CoCo I tried to see if it worked and it turns out it made my dad mad one day and he ended up ripping it out of the TV, I was thinking about just finding vintage parts and fixing it.

I've got two 3.5" floppy drives and a 5.25" floppy drive laying around in a box of old spare parts behind me. I don't need floppies for drivers, or anything with my current hardware, so I haven't bothered digging them out and using them. It isn't worth it, either, since I have a multi-port in the 3.5" external bay that has USB for my thumb drive in case of emergency.

First guess is a broken solder joint on the video connector.

We have 5 computers. 3 Laptops which have slide in/out ports, so if we bought the floppy drive ya it could have one. The 2 desktops both have them built in though.Floppys are so funny now, 5.8mg of storage on average, thats about 2 songs.

Dude, either you are smoking something SERIOUSLY strong or you had some tricked out custom gear. The average 3.5" floppy drive had a capacity of 1.44 megabytes. Older ones only supported 720K and there were ones that supported 2.88 meg. If it was a good floppy and you had special software sometime you could format a 1.44 floppy above the rated capacity but they tended to be unstable if you did that. There were also LS-120 drives that could read normal floppies but a LS-120 disk wouldn't work in a normal drive.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LS-120

Zip disks do better than that though. But again, they store a lot more than just 5.8 MB... Whatever, they can't beat the optical storage media of today, obviously XD

Not true. My other system running Windows Vista Ultimate has an internal floppy drive and it works more than fine.As for my current system, unfortunately, there isn't such a drive. They're still quite useful to create bootable disks for old operating systems and such.

My newest PC doesn't have a floppy drive and I don't miss it at all. It's really useless now because of the pen drives.
