Personally, I could are less if the record company gets any profits or not. The artists get around $0.25 per cd sold if they're lucky, and the majority of their profits come from sponsorships and concerts so yea I don't care :waaa:

I don't think it should be illegal. Most people share music online because they want others to hear what they enjoy. If I buy an album at a record store with my own money, I don't want somebody dictating that I can't share it with my friends.

Well, if there were some way the recording artists' labels could offer free mp3s of their music as long as people like us subscribe to their newsletters on their websites...

ĦUps!, I live in Spain. Here it totally legal. At this moment SGAE (Spanish's RIAA) use FUD tactics, but well informed people knows that if you don't commercially use those downloads.

Only if the music is from a fairly new artist that can still profit from it. If it's music from a band that no longer makes music, or the band members are dead or something, then I don't see a problem.

downloading music should be illegal as long as the company is still selling it, after that, it should be legal. if people only downloaded music and never bought, then the whole music industry would collapse!!!

... the whole music industry would collapse!!!

The whole industry's going to collapse because some people like to be generous and share the music they bought? I don't think so.

Nice way of putting it. So how much money and effort do you think the musicians put into the recording, producing, mastering, promotion and distribution of their music only for people to steal it and say what you just did?

i dont care if people downloaded my songs i wrote, as long as i got copyright on them and i can legally call that song mine then im fine with people downloading my songs, i think other more famous artists would think the same too. its just music industries wanna get more money so they sell cds. and in australia downloading songs is still illegal but everyone does it

well downloading music for free only really hurts the smaller independent artists, all the rest whine about it even though they hardly notice they're losing money. because everyone does it, it will be impossible to stop it illegal or not.

Should it be illegal? In a way it is if you think about it. You are stealing music because your not paying for it but no one really seems to care. If a person really likes an artist, I think they'll be curteous to go and buy their cd.
