if you'd have to pay for all the songs it would cost like 100 dollars for 700 songs, that's insane. :D

I don't think so because if people are willing to share their music by posting and uploading songs for downloads, then why should there be a restriction? It's up to the person whether he or she wants to buy or download their own music.

downloading music should be legal as long as some people still buy the CDs and support the bands.

Reason for edit: My last post was completely idiotic. It's gone now and replaced with this one.No, people who are getting their music downloaded are rich already, don't make us poor to enjoy them.Actually, after thinking about it, why is it even called illegal? Am I going to get arrested/fined? Will I be caught? Has ANYONE been caught? Why would an illegal download be the first result on google if you typed in "Limewire"?

No it shouldn't be. Many groups that do music that is not mainstream would die with out the net. And for mainstream many people who have DL a song have gone out and bought the cd. There are studies that prove that DL music and games for that matter do not hurt sales.

downloading music is not illegal if you pay for it.if it was free artists wouldnt make any money cause instead of buying their CDs, people can just download it.

Downloading music shouldn't be illegal. Then we won't be able to get music from ITunes.

I really think that artists should produce music for creative expansion as well as to try and enlighten the masses with their messages. However, music (from my viewpoint) has degenerated into a senseless chant with bass that artists try to sell for money. Efforts are made (Demonoid ftw) to distribute music en masse for free, but people keep on paying.

No WAY!! They say that people not buying cd's ruins the sales and doesn't reel in enogugh $$ but look at them THEIR FILTHY RICH!!! And it saves us like what about 500$ a year at the least. I think that the artist shou8ld look at the world more closely and see how much people save by dling music offliune and not haveing to buy like $15 cd's... Post youre opinion

im pretty sure it's already illegalGPs were deducted from this post, please read the rules! - Molus Milossius

As many people as we know that download music there are still people out there that buy it as well. Companies are not going to loose as much money as you would think. The Artist aren't either. Even though I know I can simply open up limewire or any other free source downloading software and get just about any song I want doesn't mean I don't go out and buy the CD because sometimes I'd like to have the actual thing rather than a CD case full of blank CD's with scribbling on them lol!No I don't think it should be illegal. Almost forgot to add that :s

Here's my view of music. Music is an art. People go see art everyday, they use art in their lectures, they can go online and view art. Yes, we in a way already pay for viewing the art...we pay for the internet that grants us access to the art. Music is no different...we go online, we listen to music, and just like images we can save music onto our computer. We still listen to the music, we still support and promote the artist of the music, we still pay in a sense for the music as well. If I like an artist enough to download several of his or her pieces of music, I will definitely go out and by a CD or download from napster or iTunes where I pay for the songs to promote the artist even further...but my view of illigalizing downloads of music is like making downloads of images illigal. It shouldn't be treated as such.

You have a very good point. I'm glad you made this statement cause I didn't think of it like that before. Makes a lot of sense though to put it that way.

It should be rightfully illegal, because the company wants their money for their music, but I do not think it matters to most people, because we can easily get around it. But I think it is okay, as long as we do not sell it.

I think it should be illegal. After all, it's not your's. And even if you don't like the record companies, write them a letter of protest or something. But I do share music so I'm kinda a hypocrite. If a friend buys a CD, I'll borrow it and download it. At least it got paid for at some point.

Yes it should be illegal. Sure there are musicians who already have a lot of cash, but what about those that don't? Their music gets ripped for free as well as the famous ones. Bands put in a lot of hard work and a lot of their own cash into making music, we should pay for their hard work. It's just rude not to do so.
