Well it makes sense but what about someone who doesn't care about their appearance..What would he be like?

Well I guess even if you want to be "stereotypeless" you fall into that category.. Cause for some reason I think humans need to be able to put people into them, to know where they have them. And a way to getting drawn to your "kind" of people (from looks, music taste, interesst etc)People who dosnt care about their appearance I guess would be.. well.. um actually I cant come up with anything right now :P

Uhmm, I don't know why but I always tend to look at its cover.. If it looks childish or ugly, I actually won't take it.Well, not always by the pictures but the name of the book. If it looked cool and sounded nice, I would go and read its summary at the back. If not, I would just leave the book there. Unfortunately, this isn't something really good for me to have. I leave useful books around and it isn't until quite a while after till I actually read them. My parents often gets pissed at me for this. Regarding people, I don't tend to rate them right when I meet them so yeah. I judge them after 1-2 lengthy conversations or if we had an experience together at somewhere for a certain amount of time.

i think everybody does at first glance, and that doesnt make you shallow. what makes a person shallow is if they take that judgement as all there is to the person. what i mean by that is that they judge a person as ugly, and then decide not to get to know that person because they are ugly. i think that makes people shallow.

I like how several people literally thought the topic was about choice in books. Just shows you should look before you leap.Unfortunately, I DO stereotype. Especially if the people that I happen to be judging are around people that I have seen filling a particualr niche. Of course, not all stereotyping is harmful. I believe stereotyping affects you negatively when it affects what you do and/or say around people. Also, I tend to judge reading material by title or summary.o.O

They judged this topic by the cover eh?Well i do stereotype people a bit but i do take many more..what's that word.... things that they do and consider them before judging them. And my judgement always changes so a person I hated a while ago can be a good friend now. I do stereotype quickly at times.I was talking to my mother about how people here are boring to discuss with (That's why i love DG) but then i realized that many people i know aren't so bad.So stereotyping was a fail there. But maybe its because of the way they discuss that i like them (could be). Then I stereotyped the girls in my class. All who looked at the teacher then the book then asked a doubt were all labelled as ...well... Not the kind of people who study/Function like me.They can be boring and narrow minded and i don't think I'll change that view of them but i still like them because they are nice people on the whole. As for reading material a few sentences is enough but i also look at the text size,Font and illustrations.Smell and texture are extras that i pay attention to.But its always the cover that grabs one's attention but i don't judge one on it.

I don't have that option. Most of the people I talk threw are over the internet anyway. So I rarely actually see the person I'm talking to. I love that about the internet as well. You'll never ignore or hate someone based on how they look, but how they act.

Do I stereotype? Yes I do. I forgot what it's called, but I remember the stereotypes when I see it, but forget it when it's not. So if I see ten bad drivers, and three of them are Asian, I'll only remember the Asian being the bad driver while I forget about the white, black, and Mexican people who were also bad drivers. It doesn't help that I live in an dominantly Asian community, so the majority of bad drivers I see actually are Asian.

I beleive its called confirmation bias, when u ignore all the cases against ure position and highlight those that support it.... ashamed to admit, i do sometimes find myself stereotyping. usually racially.

A little too often I think I do. The Cover of the book is meant to catch the readers attention, and if it fails to do even that I can't imagine how poorly written the book may be.

I follow my dads rules on this. 1.First impressions are everything.(Example) If you look like a derelict I'm going to assume you are till proven wrong.2. Though first impressions are about 70% your behavior towards things and people are the other 30% if I find it to my liking we may get along.3. If you lie to me even once wen we first meet my impression of you drops significantly, as now i cant be sure if I'm seeing the real you or a facade so I'm less likely to trust you. That's how i react to people.

I have to admit sometimes but I allow myself to further understand the act of a person character to be a factor afterward.

Yes, far more than I would like to admit. Race/skin color I can easily ignore, but the manner of dress, presence or absence of tattoos and/or piercings, cleanliness, and other things can lead to certain impressions before I ever even hear a person speak. But if someone who seems questionable ever approaches me and just asks a question or makes a friendly comment, I can very easily adjust my view of the person.

I do, but I don't want to. If the cover doesn't look good, I probably won't notice it while scanning for books. A good book should be able to afford a good cover.

I dont really read books, but i judge a game by its cover/name. If it has a bad cover then i just ignore it. Its how i find games, if im really bored...I look at all the pages here looking for a good cover.
