The main reason that blu ray wont replace dvds as fast as dvd's replaced vhs is because they are both disk all is it is doing is upping the quality where as dvd's did that plus made it much more storable

If you're under the impression that Blu-ray discs' capacity is not greater than DVDs, you need to know a bit more about them before you post.

It hasn't done that yet, just saying that at some point it obviously will (like I said, SOMETHING of greater size will have to).

Give it another 3 years, and DVDs will almost be completely phased out for most uses in favor of Blu-Ray. It took a few years for DVD to get enough ground for nearly everybody to switch over, but at this point, there are already rather inexpensive Blu-Ray readers out there, and a couple burners that aren't incredibly expensive.

Certainly.. it's a question of time, until they master its production technology, then we'll see a price drop and sooner or later it will become a standard, just like dvd.

It's true, if Playstation 3's were just a tad bit cheaper, I'd switch my DVD collection over to Blu-Ray pretty quick.

It already has begun to replace it in many minds and hearts. When it does actually replace DVD (For I feel it will eventually), If I don't get A DVD drive by then, I am going to feel very out dated.

Well lately i've just seen Shai posting alot of topics. Anyone going to warn him or is that ok? Topic spamming with just a few titles is really lame. I mean why would you do that? Just for some ROMS? Or just for some cool stuff in the gp store?

I think in the few years Blue-Ray be the successor of DVD. I notice there are lot of Blue-Ray CD's appear but DVD's are still demanding.

Definitely the DVD is no match against Blu Ray Disks, if you see it in performance wise decision but in practicality wise decision DVD flattens Blu Rays.DVD's are less expensive and much accessible to everyone around the world. I ca't properly explain why DVD's got an edge than BR, but just try to notice it in you local gaming/internet cafe.. ^^,

Blu ray DVD will replace normal DVD's in the future.I mean the cost of them are high as well as the players, but if you remember when DVD's came out it was the same concept.BluRay will have a 100% chance tke over in the near future

Once the prices become more reasonable, yes since it's kinda like the whole vhs to dvd evolution.

Blu Ray will almost definitely replace DVD, but it will take time. Producers just have to find a way to lower the costs of production and lower the prices of blu ray more so that the masses are more willing to switch over, which I think they will.

Blu-ray doesn''t seem to catch on. It will take alot of time since we just recently adapted to dvds. Like for 10 years we've had it and we have gotten accustomed to it.

Doh When Games become 30 GB I Would rather buy it in one Blu-ray rather than5 DVDs.And HD movies already are mostly Blu Ray So it will eventually somewhat replace it.

Interesting to see that this thread started back in 2007, and almost two years have passed, and Blu-ray is still not the standard. DVD is still pretty active, and Blu-ray is still too expensive for most people to get one. Probably this transition to Blu-ray is hard because it not only relates to having to replace your player, but also your TVs.

they are coming out with higher standards for HD and movies... so soon they wont have anywhere to turn to for storage handling other than bluray... unless of course they can get massive bandwidth wifi so all the movies are online... its gonna change and fast...

I think so, but not for a couple more generations, then DVD's will be used by the old parents, and may countinue down a line for a while.
