like winxp had problems with win 95/98 programs... changes in kernel coding/API affects the running of programs specifically designed to run on the previous version of OS... its a unfortunately process.... imagine, a key and a lock... the lock is the OS, the key is the program... change the lock without changing the key appropriately? u get locked out

I think that the reason that you can't play most games with Vista is because of the fact that most of the games were made to play on xp and the fact that vista doesn't support most games. Its really quite sad, seeing as vista has so much great features. :D

Hey VISTA is the ultamate software for games like crysis and gears of war. And i think i know why all those things are happening to your pc. It turns out that in order to play most next gen games on your pc you need to upgrade that baby so much that it turns out to be a monster. It also cost at least $3000 (three thousand dollars!!!!!!) to get the hardware for the upgrades and where talking big name brands like GEforce and Dell. If you want i can post the price for the parts of the upgrades on the forum if your interested.

The processors that the Vista has are not yet that well developed, if you look em up there are some processors that enhance game play. I should know, mines really fast,

#1. Vista dropped support for OpenGL. #2. Different coding for the Windows kernel. #3 All new operating systems have many quirks when they come out. #4. SP1 hasn't shown to really boost the speed of anything so far. It is just a rollup of all the patches/updates for VISTA. #5 If you want to use DirectX 10 games on XP, check out the Sapling Leaf Project. #6. Dell or any other high end OEM manufacturer will never have the most high-end hardware and that is why it is best to build it yourself if you feel you have the knowledge. I am currently building a computer that can run CRYSIS at full (not kidding) at ~1900 bucks. That is including a 24" 1080p monitor.

first, maybe your computer specs are not good enough for games, esp. video card, ram, processor.second, maybe the game needs administrator privilege to run, (right-click the shortcut then select run as admin, and confirm the uac box)third, the game is currently not compatible with vista, contact the game's manufacturer for patches/updates

No. While it will require a more powerful PC than XP, it's nowhere near $3000. You don't even need to hit $2000. Or even $1000. Vista runs perfectly fine on my friend's $600 PC. AMD Athlon 3800+ x2, 2GB RAM, 6150LE (it came with that card, so don't ask why he has it). Although Vista is totally useless right now...

and where talking big name brands like GEforce and Dell

GeForce isn't a hardware manufacturer. It's a series of nVidia graphics cards. And Dell isn't a hardware manufacturer either, they just make PCs that are a pain to upgrade.

Internet dropping for no reason

Really? Mine never held the internet at all, so it never dropped it. :PFirst time I opened IE7 in Vista (or tried to) I got an error message, so I said "screw it" and went back to XP.TC, if you can, stick with XP for a while. And I mean, a few years AFTER everyone made the switch to Vista. I know I will. Dual boot if you really want Vista.

Try right clicking the icon, selecting properties, and going to the compatibility tab.Or you could just get Windows XP. Most Vista only games have an XP crack anyway...

Hopefully things will catch up.The only thing that I would need 98 for is the Gameshark CD, but my gameshark for Gameboy Color is broken and I use ROMs anyways and they have built in cheats. So hopefully patches will come out, if not we could try Virtual Machines.
