Both really you can have turn based or realtime in final fantasy depending on which one. but real time in star ocean: till the end of time. is good as well as the turn base in final fantasy VII. but mainly turn based :-D

I agree I like both variations, but real time seems to be the new form of RPGs

I prefer Real Time. I dont mind turn based fighting, but its not much of a challenge and makes fights too easy for me.

Hi,I'm definitely a real-time guy. Seiken Densetsu and The Legend of Zelda are my favorite series. Kingdom Hearts is also awesome. I've never actually gotten into Final Fantasy and I think it's that whole turn-based battle system. I just find that it makes me feel like there's an interruption. I don't think battles should be interruptions in video games.Cheers, treeofmana

i prefer real-time over turn-based, but just because a game's turn-based doesn't mean i won't play it.

I'd say real time is fun because it keeps you in the heart of the action. Turn base makes it hard for me to level up because I lose interest when things become too repetitive...

I'm like both of them I mean. I like Old Final Fantasy that can select Active modebut if it's Turn base (like final fantasy X) I'm think it's too easy because you're know what going to happen next...Easily Semi-Turn base ^_^Editedoh yeah I'm prefer real time than semi turn base

Typically, this type of debate becomes; old gamers vs new gamers. =\Real-time in Final Fantasy doesn't mean the same thing as other games ( with the exception of Final Fantasy XI and XII ), so it really has no bearing here. ^_^Real-time is like how Star Ocean, (dot)hack plays or MMOs play; all of your characters running around the field at the same time, doing their own thing outside of a structured system, where you have to be extremely fast on the controls and get forced into a longer wait time than is given to you in the FF games. Your attacks take time to load, so you might not be able to utilize a strategy, because your character might die before they're able to attempt it.Turn-based is like Final Fantasy; you have a set time that you have to wait, determined by stats, but your enemies and yourself don't move around the field, unless it's backwards or forwards to control the amount of damage that is dealt. Your loading time for moves is nearly instant, unless you're playing some of the later games, so you're sure to get your attacks off before you have the chance to die in the fight. Now, with that said, clearing up that Final Fantasy has no real-time system outside of Final Fantasy XI and XII... I would have to say that I like turn-based games more.I liked the Star Ocean games and I do enjoy some MMOs, but I dislike their fighting systems, which is the only real thing that separates them from typical games that I enjoy.

I hate turn based RPGs, I think the correct term for Kingdom Hearts would be an Action RPG.The only way that I'll put up with a turn based game is if it incorporates the ABS (Active-Battle System for the n00bs)

I like real time because you don't have to wait for your opponet to attack you. Also because real time is more enjoyable and more buttons you have to press. :P

I used to like turn based but I dont have the time and patience anymore, so I prefer real time now, its more fast paced action meaning you have to think faster which is alot more challenging imho, keeps you on your feet and gives you faster results.I dont know if FFXII is really real time you still have to wait to attack, the only difference is you can freely move around. real time for me is like kingdom hearts style, but with that being said I dont really know the definition of real time rpgs, so enlighten me.
