I'd choose Melee. More playable characters the better. :(

i'd have to disagree with one point in your argument, while brawl did set high markings for character design and glitch fixing, the imbalances you speak of are called mind games and they actually make or break a fighting game period. If you have a fighter who goes all offensive against a fighter who toys around with his opponent, making them ill at ease for when the next attack will be, more times than not the person who does the mind games will win cause they can fight more efficiently knowing that they have the upper hand with the simple fact that they can provoke an attack from their opponent, then rush in after the attack and counter with an attack of their own, maybe even a combo

Melee practically destroyed the original Smash Bros., as you'd expect a sequel to do

SSB64 was a great game. Unfortunately, I feel that a lot of the mechanics were a bit lopsided. If you play SSB64 in a tournament, once you get hit, you're pretty much in an inescapable 0 to Death combo. The off the edge game is too simplistic for me, because everyone's recoveries(sans Pika, Kirbs, Jiggs) are pretty bad.Melee introduced a wider cast, better recoveries, more advanced techs, a nicer stage selection, and most importantly, a more balanced combo game, and off the edge game.I'd have to give it to Melee, honestly, though, I don't mind playing 64 once in a while.

Anytime the new over the old one, and anyway in the new one you can play with the older character and map, so the new one anytime ! I just hate that new guy from capcom in the last one, he should'nt be there!
