I always try and beat games without cheating or using any outside help, but nothing works better when you're stuck than Gamefaqs. When I was 11 or 12 years old I went to a store to buy a walkthrough from EB games, and the guy at the counter convinced me to go home and check out gamefaqs first. Since then I've never bought a game walkthrough.

Usually from the internet. On random boards too, where people talk about videogames. Someone always reports new games, so I usually just look at what they have to say. Friends also help too, if anything, i learn more from them. They like their videogames : )

Mostly from the internet. Specifically gamefaqs.com, though rpgclassics is good for some older games and consoles.

I go to the video game shops, like EB and Game, and have a look around, and then do some research on the game, like reviews, etc.

I got two methods to gain knowledge of video games and I think they are quite effectiveThe first one is Gamefaqs. That internet page got it all: Reviews, Faqs, Cheats and Grades. I prefer Gamefaqs than other video game pages like IGN because that page is based more on the public's opinion rather than "experts" that criticize good games. The faqs are also quite nice because you can have a good idea of how the gameplay is about and they are more parcial than the reviews. That pretty much means that Faqs are more reliable than reviews because most of the times they do not contain the author's opinion. Take time to see this page. The second one is YouTube. This page is quite effective since it features subscriptions. Why is this so cool? because you can subscribe to people who upload video game GAMEPLAYS with the LPs. That way you can have another idea of how the game is like, including graphics and music for example. If you want some good people to subscribe I recomend the following:ProtonJonSA: He uploads videos of Mario Hacks (although he recently said he wont do it again) and different gamesSonikDude101: This guy excels in LPs videos. He uploads so frequent you will never run out of video from him. He prefers Wii games and does some good reviews too.Ashe10: He owns in RPG playthroughs, uploads daily and in great quality, no voice comments which is also nice.Insectduel: He is a retro gamer that has his own page for old school classic hacks. He does Megaman RomhacksLuizPrower: You should know about him alreadyToopelius: He does MegaMan rom hacks.qzecwx: Of all Mega Man Rom hack players, I think he is the best. His comments are hillarious and his videos have nice quality too. I played SSBB once with him and it was a blastNeverchris: He does good objective reviews of video games. I like this guy above other reviewers because his reviews appeal alot with my likes. His voice is interesting too.Of course most of these guys do retro games but it varies alot in what you like. SonikDude101 nails it in Wii though.

My friend and I religiously search the internet and magazines for news about new and upcoming games, and then I'll always be checking coming soon lists from EB Games, Game or JB Hi-Fi (three stores I go to most often)

gameinformer, previous titles, and internet usually. i don't play that many games based on advice from in person friends since most of my friends around town play a lot of the games that i hate (modern day shooters and such) also i'll tend to snag games from older series just out of nostalgia ^^

Wow a majority of the answers to the poll were internet. Did not see that coming. When i hear about a game from my friend Google (XD) I first start by looking up images of the game. Just to see how good the graphics are. Then if i'm still interested i go to YouTube and look for videos. I usually look for game walkthroughs and trailers of the game :(
