Singleplayer : CoD4 easily. As much as I love the Halo series, you really have no idea whats going on unless you read the books to understand everything. (Theres roughly 2 DECADES of backstory BEFORE Halo 1.)Multiplayer : Halo 3 by a narrow margin. You've played one "realistic" FPS (Lol, there hasn't been a real "realistic" FPS since the original Rainbow Six for the PC) you've played them all. Halo 3's forge is actually innovative and its hard to argue with 4-player online co-op when most games have flat-out dropped co-op completely.If you want both, go with Halo 3. Online co-op for friends, online deathmatch for "friends". If you've been around the block enough times, CoD4 is not THAT great of a game.

Generally, CoD4 is better than H3 because the multiplayer is nothing short of amazing, and it almost never gets boring.

The biggest problem for me is that I don't play a whole lot and when I do, it's impossible for me to find a match in Halo 3. I suppose my rank is too low or something, as I have to wait forever to find players my level to play with. As for COD4, I just choose my prefered gametype and the room is (almost) instantly filled. Since most of my friends play COD4, it's really easy to hop in and clean games (tactics work omg), not to mention the engine is supreme. I've always loved multiplayer in COD games, they were never a let-down for me, and I really like the perks. As for Halo 3, it just became meh and it ended up in my closet with all of the other games I rarely play.

First of all Cod4 is only good for skilled people and the game itself is kinda annoying too but halo has fantastic updates every friday so its really fun. i would go for Cod4 though cz all my friends play it

They both have a lot of hype, im a bit disapointed by both really, its depending what type of games you like really. Online im going with Halo because there are better games to play, i enjoy rocket race for some reason. Cod fo single player because it funner to play

ive playd both and halo3 waz real easy n quicK but cod4 graphics amazing n then the story wit it light outs for halo n i love halo so yeah go wit the cod4 n then the multiplayer on cod4 is crazy

I liked playing COD 4 way better and the story line is pretty good. Halo 3 was just okay to me

Personally, I think they are two different genres of first person shooters. Halo is more along the lines of fast, in your face actions. While Call of Duty takes a more laid back, scout things out first take. Halo is more about the quicker trigger finger, while call of duty is about out thinking your opponent.

Halo 3 if you have Xbox Live. Halo 3 OWNS in Live, but the campaign is debatable. For those who have followed the Halo series since it was born, they might find it more enjoyable than the average player because they have followed the plot from the start. If you take the time to go through the entire Halo history, you will find that the story is incredibly intriguing and beautiful. Bungie has always paid great attention to detail and in the campaign, and one can find hidden secrets in the campaign if he looks hard enough. These clues help in the unravelling of the story of Halo. One great example is AscendantJustice.com. The guys there have compiled the they smallest cluse with the largest and weaved an almost perfectly accurate conclusion.HOWEVER, if you're not a diehard Halo fan, you most probably wouldn't care much about the business with the story and the Forerunners. So my suggestion is that, if you're an average gamer and never heard of Halo: Combat Evolved or Halo 2, that go for COD 4. COD 4 gives much more "realistic" gameplay in its campaign and has a decent storyline which fits the "war" theme nicely. Its upgrade from World War II-ish COD 3 is definitely a plus with its modern weapons and high tech equipment.OTHERWISE, feel free to puchase the most awesome First-person shooter in history which made US$170 million in its first 24 hours of sales.
