Both of their single players are relatively equal. If you haven't played the other Halos, I would go towards CoD4; the Halo 3 story is my least favorite of the so-called trilogy and isn't anything special aside from finishing the story. Neither of them have much replay value, although I find CoD4's story much more fun to play overall. As for multiplayer... oh boy.As for Halo 3; well, there's nothing particularly wrong with it, aside from the fact that the ranking system is completely flawed. It's not like it's random; it's just the way that the system works that makes it so counterproductive that playing the game only to skill up is going to be hell.Aside from that, there's no flaws with it; aside from personal experience, in which I found Halo 3's appeal (especially in multiplayer) to die quickly.Call of Duty's ranking system, however, is very simple to understand and actually rewards your rank with much more than some fancy symbol (new weapons and perks.) Plus, CoD's multiplayer just never died for me. I still love it.Also, having customizable classes is complete win.In the end; if you haven't played the previous Halo games, get Call of Duty 4. If you have played the previous Halo games, try and get both; get Halo to finish the story and Call of Duty 4 to have more fun.

Having played both Halo 3 is just right for balanced play no one has a real advantage but COD4 is good too. In COD it is so unbalanced because people may have better perks or weapons than you. The ranking system isn't flawed in Halo 3 it does a good job of weeding out the good from the great. COD on the other hand any 8 yr old who plays all day can reach the highest rank. The story mode for both is fine, although COD's is just a little better. In terms of difficulty Halo 3 is harder just because of skulls, But Legendary compared to Veteran at base value is a different outcome veteran comes out the winner because the game mechanics contrast. Halo 3 gives a shield bar, COD gives no such thing albeit there is "shield". In my opinion Halo 3 is better by a long shot just because the multiplayer is perfect for friends even without a lousy clan system.

Halo 3: aka "Shoot them a few times as you jump and hope your melee registers first"vsCall of Duty 4: aka "Waste your time with newbtubes until you get a P90 and then start doing good"Good choices, really.

I favor Halo because to me, CoD4 has no tactics, I feel whoever has the faster firing AK wins, it seems to me whoever can throw the more bullets wins. While in Halo I will admit there are a few balance issues, but over all I think that its a more social and fun game.

Both Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 had short campaigns. It boils down to actual gameplay and multiplayer. I find I like the realism in Call of Duty 4 better, but Halo 3's multiplayer is still pretty fun.

You surely want to get COD4 the realistic shooting mechanic is much more fluid with being able to change from side shoot to over the barrel makes the experience much better plus COD4 is much more realistic

personally I prefer COD4 over Halo 3. Halo was way too easy and the online is over populated by whiny ten year olds and it's easy to glitch and gain advantages. I really like COD 4 because of the ranking and leveling system it gave me something to work for in the game rather as Halo's system was a bit pointless you wouldn't get the exp you deserved and you couldn't tell what you needed to level up sometimes.

if you've ever played cod4 on hc mode then you will see tactics, especially on the pc. i can see where you make that comment from and not every match type is the kind where you run in and get shot or blown up instantly

I do enjoy both, but Call of Duty 4 just seems annoying at times. Basically in COD4 if you get shot, you're going to die and there's not much you can do besides put on juggernaut like a noob or use martyrdom. In Halo 3 you actually have a chance to fight back. Halo 3 also has more gametypes and a way to edit your own levels with forge. You can also customize you're characters appearance. Two of its DLC map packs are free and the third is 600 Microsoft points. Halo 3 supports splitscreen in matchmaking as well, something COD4 doesn't let you do for some reason. COD4 DOES have a longer campaign then Halo 3 and COD4's veteran beats Halo 3's legendary difficulty by a long shot on some levels e.g. Mile High Club. I also like COD4's experience system better than Halo 3's. The point is, they're both great games, but they both have their flaws. Either one is a good pick for a console FPS.

If you have xbox live gold, get CoD4, I think it might not be better than halo but the ability to customize your character means it will have a longer shelf life. If you don't have gold or you sometimes have it and sometimes don't, then get halo since it has a co-op campaign and the smaller maps are better for split-screen play.

Halo has a less realistic environment or more futuristic. You have different weapons, human and non human. The graphics are okay, but the shine was overdone, rocks tend to glitter like diamonds.Halo allows you toride on vehicles such as Banshees,Warthogs,Ghosts. Its also a sequel to two previous games, where it finishes (supposedly) its storyline.Call of Duty 4 has a more realistic approach to FPS. You learn to take cover, learn to throw cooked gernades, where to plant c4's , ect: It has no vehicles in the game, but unlike Halo the weapons you use come fromyour level/rank. My favorite gun, the p90, wont be available for a while until you get somewhere in the 30's (haven't played in a while). Also, when you receive a certain amount of kills you have the choice to usespecial support.I choose Call of Duty 4, mostly because I feel it brings me closest to feeling like I am at real war, which is what I always look for in an FPS.
