Supposed to replace the 8800ultra/gtx Still going to be a heck expensive XD Ripped the article from HereNVIDIA's yet-to-be released GeForce 9800 GX2 in the "flesh." We reveal some of the specs and what should be expected. The best way to think of the GeForce 9800 GX2 card is as an 8800 GPU that has been die shrunk to 65nm and placed in an SLI configuration in a "single" card. The 9800 GX2 is very reminiscent of 7950 GX2 of days past. (And we loved the 7950 GX2 at launch, but terrible support and diminishing returns soon painted it as one of NVIDIA’s biggest failures since the 5800 series.)The GeForce 9800 GX2 will launch in late February or early March as it now stands and will replace the 8800 Ultra (single GPU) card in NVIDIA's high-end product line up. The 9800 GX2 is said to be 30% faster than a 8800 Ultra. While it is not clear from the pictures below, we are told it will support "Quad SLI."FrontPosted ImageBackPosted ImageGeForce 9800 GX2 1. 1GB Frame Buffer 2. Two PCBs 3. Two 65nm GPUs Total 4. 256 Stream Processors TotalAll of the information here comes from sources overseas that we consider trustworthy. Obviously there are some specifications that could be a bit more clear, especially on the memory bus. We would expect to see two 768MB frame buffers per GPU here, but that is not what is spelled out. We are guessing 512MB per GPU currently.Personally the 30% increase is quite unnerving ;), I don't know if you guys are bothered  but basically this will replace the 8800Ultra

PCI-E based with PCI Structures,But,Is it useful for normal use?Only for Gaming,There are lots of choices.I think,Decoding HD content may not need a super Display card,Using ATI HD2.4K Pro is enough for normal usage.I'm using the Display card to play HD content.

I don't know what that translate to if it comes to Quad-core, but if it's a direct translation of the stats, having this in Quad-Sli means it will give a 60% increase. That's incredible.Maybe Crysis will be able to run full-speed with it.

that is an amazing video card, and i can bet it will cost around 400-500 dollars. I have a geforce 7600 that is suiting my needs fine for the time right now, but im looking at getting a 8500gt soon. Any idea when that 8900 card comes out?

Just too expensive. I rather buy a Gf8800GT and when the price drop for the 9 series then i may consider.

Were you dropped on your head as a kid? The 7600 series can't even be compared to any of the newer cards out now. It gets its ass kicked in any and all benchmarks by a landslide.

Clearly Ckomma just wrote that for the GPs and wanted to say something different to hide this fact. But we all know this is going to be such a killer card, it's not even funny. nVidia has got so much momentum from the release of the newly revised 8800 series that ATI and the rest of the competition have a very little chance of coming back anytime soon.

DAAMIT seems to be losing again in the $100-$200 price range. First the 8800GS cards came out around the price of the HD3850s, now the 9600GT is out for the same price. I'm really interested in seeing what the 9800 series, especially the GX2 brings to the table in terms of performance. Hopefully, though, DAAMIT can at least take back a certain price point (the HD3850 was previously dominating the $100-$200 market) and provide more competition.I'm no fanboy, but the competition benefits the buyers most.

Considering my motherboard has a single x16 PCI-E slot(the other one being only x4 in speed), this would be a good choice to replace my 8600GTS... Since it(theorically) has the power of two cards, in a single slot.

That would be a waste of money, unless you render full videos. It would suck for gaming. Period.

I don't know why such a big fuss about a video card that is only boosting a few things and costing you so much more money. Right now I have a laptop with a 8800M GTS and the only thing better then that on a laptop is 8800M GTX.Anyone know where I can buy an Intel T9300 Dual Core Processor for my laptop? Right now I have a lame T5450 Dual Core Processor.

This might be a beast, but it consumes a really large amount of Watt.Consider buying a power supplier with at least 500 Watt for it.Well,I personally prefer buying middle power cards, because they can run new games well.

If you checked the benchmarking, the 9800 GX2 doesn't even beat a pair of 8800 GT on SLI...And as stated by people, this card being this enormous, will take out alot of juice out of your system...I personally have an Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 X2, which is the exact same concept as this GX2, and already this card's minimum requirement of a PSU is a 550w...I can just imagine how this card is... :PFor those that already own an 8800GT, save yourself the cash, buy a second 8800GT and SLI it up...

About time the GPU's jump on the same board as the CPU's, Quad cores are bound to happen any time now.

It's not a dual core. It's two PCBs on one card, just like the 7950GX2 was.

Wow.... I bought an Evga 8800GTX graphics card about 3 weeks ago and to see that nvidia are going to release a new graphics card which is smaller and the same speed is annoying. My card blocks up 2 SATA cables since it's so huge @_@

No. You can not mix and match different GPUs. If you want to SLI, then you will need another 8800GT.
