7-zip is great no doubt, but I use Peazip personally for the added functionality.

WinRar is not really bad and I never experience any errors about it (right now). It's really handy in case you want to attach a lot of files to e-mail.

I may not know about your situation but this one thing I know, you won't get a virus thru winrar.

Actually, WinRAR is my favorite archiver. I have both it and WinZip installed, but that just for ".zip" files to have different icons. For some reason, I never really liked 7-zip. I've been using WinRAR since I've got my first PC (and it was back in 1997), and I've never ever had any problems with it, nor did any of my friends. As for popups, you only need to "buy" it, that's all. Mine's registered, but I didn't pay real money for that.

I don't know what archives Winrar can handle, so I'll have to guess 2, ZIP and RAR. 7-zip includes a plethora of formats, including TAR my favourite. I'll never understand why compressing a file by just a few megs can help make delievery faster. But merging lots of tiny files can save a lot of time.

Yes, 7-Zip has a similar GUI to Winrar, is free (no nags), can extract any format Winrar can and use the 7-Zip archive format which has higher compression ratios!I hate WinRar too!!!

I don't know what you mean by jumble up, but I have been using 7zip for all of my unzipping needs. It works pretty well for what I put it through and that's about all that I need. I never tried any other programs like that though.
