What things do you like- or wish- to see in an RPG? Some of my own likes and dislikes:Like:-Other interesting things to do besides the main quest-Lots of interactivity with the surrounding; even a description of an item that pops up when I run up to it and hit the A button is nice.-A variety of items and special skills to use. It doesn't have to be ultra-powerful, it just needs to be fun to use.Dislikes:-The generic attack/defend/item/run battle system.-Fetch quests-Forced grinding-Grinding-Fetch quests-Obscure things that must be done/obtained in order to access important stuff, such as better endings.-Fetch questsYeah, I've been spoiled pretty bad by the better RPGs.

I enjoy almost every type of RPG.I like the generic battle system, but if its something other than a handheld then I believe that it should be free-action and such.Blue Dragon for the 360 was really good, but was turn-based. It's irritating to see this great graphics only being used for a turn based game. (It would not work as a free-action game.)FFIII's system was good. (I think it was III)But, you could level up skills and such, Disgaea is a newer example of what I mean.RPGs have been slacking in the past few years. The only good ones I've played are Disgaea, and not a good free-action since KOTOR.

Dislikes:-Grinding

I enjoy grinding, oddly. I just like getting skills early and then slaughtering everything.

Likes:Side quests that actually help the player to learn more about a character or the world they live inMore extra bossesMore weapons/armorDislikes:Young heroes(like around 16-18) having all this power and not knowing how to use itThe amneisa story(after the 400th time, it gets stale).

I definetly agree with the whole "I don't know who i am yet all these people look familiar" and then "Oh! That's it! I was chosen by some unforeseen force to throw my life away in attempts of saving the world."

Oh, we all like getting skills early. It's just the "Slaughter fifty billion of these and these and these to level up once" part that annoys me.

I enjoy customization aspects in all RPGs. Being able to make/use something that caters specifically to your style of play or using a build that you planned and worked for yourself is the most fun part for me.What I hate the most in RPGs is anything random or anything that depends partially or entirely on chance. Item drop %s and skill usage chances make the game seem less in your control and more like "oh I just got lucky/unlucky so I lost."Also, I hate anything that gets in the way of playing the real focus of the game. Anything that's like "hey you can actually start playing the game after you finish doing these boring virtual chores."

'Pretty Boys' make me sick. And those guys that are forced into a situation even though they would normally be helpless in it and react like pros.

A remake of Chrono Trigger and another installment in the series would eb awesome. Perhaps it can finally be established as a series, instead of a pair.

I'm also kinda getting annoyed with the typical Final Fantasy combat system. I like the new ones that are in FFXII and Star Ocean.

I would love to see a more RTS or rather, free action battles. Something akin to Fable's battle system, where its all in real time (unless you got the slow time spell) and a bit more monster heavy ala FF12. Not to the point where it's overwhelming, but enough to make you sweat a little in what commands and actions you're presented with.A little bit of more backstory for the other characters, as most recent rpgs seem to lack any foundation for the other guys. That and enemy progression! Instead of being able to backtrack and fight weaker enemies, the enemies should be able to scale with your level. If anyone remembers Lunar Silver Story Complete, it was unique in that the boss' you fight were the same level as your main hero. Of course, to prevent leveling other characters beside your hero, he had to remain in the party at all times.

I like big inventory with really, really rare weapons, armors or accessory. Completing an inventory by having at least 1 of each kind of item is a challenge I always enjoy. On the other hand, I hate limited inventories where you can only carry like 10 items for example.I also like monster variety, with rare ones. Seeing the same enemies from areas to areas get boring. Many RPGs have the following problem too: Once you reach half of the game, you get so much money you don't even have to care anymore about what you buy. You should have to think about how you spend your money until the end of an RPG, getting INSANELY rich midway through and being able to buy 99 of all items is dumb.Active battles are nice too, like Tales of Symphonia for example, or FF12. The Lost Kingdom games on GC had an awesome battle system too, too bad those games got pretty much ignored.Another thing I like, the hardest boss in the game (usualy optional) should really push you to your limit, not being something you can kill with 1 hit of the ultimate skill. And by this I mean, max level should be required, as well as ultimate equipment and items. There is no better feeling when playing a game than giving everything you have to beat a nearly invinsible boss.

May I direct you to Rule 190 of the Great List of RPG cliches?

Weapon RuleThere's always a hidden creature who is much harder to defeat than even the ultimate bad guy's final, world-annihilating form. It's lucky for all concerned that this hidden creature prefers to stay hidden rather than trying to take over the world himself, because he'd probably win. As a corollary, whatever reward you get for killing the hidden creature is basically worthless because by the time you're powerful enough to defeat him, you don't need it any more.

One of the thing I really hate about rpgs are random battles; You're happily walking along and WHOOSH A MONSTER. It makes battle unavoidable and very annoying, espcially when going though an area where the enemies are ridiculously easy or insanly hard. In games like Earthbound you could avoid enemies with skill and mak it back to a healing place before you got completely mown down.
