Like Jak and Daxter on the PS2. Jak doesnt talk at all. Daxter does all the talking.I dont mind it if someone is doing the talking for them. Otherwise, its just to strange for me.

Well Jak does do some talking but mostly daxter says the words for him.

I love it when the main character doesn't talk , kind of leaves it to your imagination what they will sound like. Some characters when they talk sound lame.

this can be quite annoying if you want to get to know the main character but on the other hand you are supposed to be the main character and u cant exactly insert what you want to say into the game =\

to me it really depends on the character. Like Link and Chrono never talk but you can still feel their personality through the game and the way the other characters interact with them. It really makes that saying "actions speak louder than words" shine. Of course for some people it doesn't really work. Sometimes I wish Serph in DDS would talk or Mario in SMRPG.

Well, it depends on what kind of actions the heor is able to do in conversations. If its a Zelda game, then it just doesn't feel out of place. Chrono Trigger it always felt weird for Crono not to talk. A recent game for me would be Ys: The Ark of Napishtim. A game that has voice acting, yet the heor doesn't talk, or even have simple text lines, just "Yes/No" like stuff? Major disappointment.

It used to bother me when I was little. Now, I couldn't care less if the principal character doesn't talk.

Short cut scene talking (not text typing for you to read) is great when it adds to the story but I like quick action / arcade games that don't take 30 minutes of your life!Give me racing and hack and slash any day!pc_doc

Hate it when the main character talks and annoys the freaking hell out of you and you have no way to shut 'em up.

it depends on the game..for example, golden sun was an example of that where the main character doesnt talk, but the story still flowed from the questions of the party members asking the lead..so it wasnt that big of a deal

These games make the story more mysterious and avoids the problem dubbing.

i think the point of those non-talking characters is to make you feel like you are the one involved in the story, not the character you are controling.

I've always preferred the main character talking, but only if the voice actor is strong. Like the Kingdom Hearts series for example; I think Sora is very well done. In contrast, however, Jak and Daxter (as mentioned below) certainly does have its quirks, as Daxter does most of the speaking. However I don't know if I really liked Jak's voice in the second and third games, so in that sense, I preferred him mute.

I prefer when they do talk. There are very few exceptions like Link from the Zelda games.

Link is one of the most epic characters who doesn't "talk".

If it's a well branched out dialogue tree where I can select multiple things to say, I'll prefer it to having a silent hero. Of course, if it's gonna be one of those games where your character is an idiot *glares at Lloyd from ToS*, I'd rather they kept their mouth shut. I find it hard to imagine myself in the role of someone who, well, isn't me - and if a character's gonna say things that I wouldn't, then I'd find it very hard to immerse myself in the experience.Link annoys me though. He doesn't talk, but the Toon Link version of him always seems so daft. Instead of the good old yes/no option; I have a choice of "I guess" or "Nah...". How am I meant to feel like the Hero of legend with those dialogue options!? Bah, it annoys me...

I think I like the character not talking thing. It is easier to identify with a character when the game isn't putting words in his mouth. Feel more like that character is you, so to speak.

I detest when they don't talk. I know it's supposed to be so that you yourself can feel like the main character...but in that case, just give me choices on what to say (like in KOTOR!)

The only game I've ever played where the main character doesn't talk was Dragon Quest VIII. I liked the game but I did find something lacking from the game because the main character doesn't talk. I mean, I get that in most games you can change the main characer's name, but still it's stupid that they don't talk..... I think that's something to do with it, because a name adds personality and usually in games where the main character doesn't talk, you give them the personality. I just think that you should do voice acting for games... or no talking at all..... Either or, but not both......

The "Hero not talking" thing has worked wonders for many games like TLoZ and Okami but then again when you play a game like KotOR where you practically choose what the hero will say affecting the whole history you just can't deny it's awesome. So in my opinion either of 'em is fine.Edit: Mario doesn't ever speak does he? 3:D

I really don't understand this whole "playing a silent hero makes it feel like you are the hero." I'm sorry, but I find it hard to feel like I'm the hero when not only has my tongue been virtually cut out, but also I'm under constant barrage by people saying "Good Morning, Mr. Freeman."Now if I just changed my name to Morgan Freeman, the argument would make much more sense.

I don't really care, since YOU are the actual hero, but it is also good to know the personality and thoughts of your hero.

I don't really mind if the principle character doesn't talk as you can use your imagination to work out what he's saying. However, it's also really cool when you know exactly what the principle character is saying. So sometimes it's a bit of a bore imagining what the character is saying.
