I don't mind it at all. Most of the time the main character has a dull, generic personality. Sometimes it's actually better if they don't talk.

Link, Mario(usually), and Crono never talked. And their all great characters so no I don't mind.Althogh the less the main character talks, the more words are put into his mouth, and therefore the more trouble he gets into through no fault of his own.

It kind of kills the story when they do that, since you now have to provide the hero with some idiot sidekick to do the talking for him, but some games are still good.

I'd have to say i felt the last legend of zelda game wouldn't have been hurt if it had a little voice acting. Or if link even got some text action. Sadly no, but the game remained amazing regardless. Nintendo is only hurt here, because the lack of voice acting only plays into people's complaints that nintendo is a kiddie gaming company, which for the most part isn't really true.

Truthfully, I don't care if characters speak or don't speak during the game. As long as the game is good, then there wouldn't be any reason at all for me to complain about it (unless the voiceover is in Japanese, like in Megaman X6), and almost every game/rom I have doesn't include verbal speech, just written speech.

I like it when they talked too, it's better than an exclaimation mark. Which utterly can mean anything...

The thing in this topic is if you like or dislike if the hero talk or doesnt talk in the game. There are games like crhono cross, alundra, alundra2, where the hero doesnt talk? I dont.It like you are a ghost or you cannot talk by some kind of magic or somethingAnd there doesnt appear any part where at least he is talking with someone even in the endings. I like to have a hero with his own life. for ex. Final fantasy 8He talk about his life, and he has his own opinion because a hero has a stong paper in the game and he need to talk to express wath he feel.

nah its better if heros dont talk like in the original gta3

i like at least text talking from the main character. otherwise you gotta guess what it was you said to someone judging from their response.

I like games like Deus Ex (the original) Where your character talks, even has his own voice, but you still get to choise what he says. If game desingers were really smart they'd look at Microsoft Sam ( a voice on your computer where you can type something + MS Sam says it for you). Stronghold 2 calls you by the name you type in, so they do have the ability to do it.

Whats wrong with the characters not talking? When games started out the characters never spoke at all? Characters talking is only a rencet invention of modern video games. Some of the best games out there dont have any voice acting for there main characters look at the legend of zelda for example it's the best game EVER, link never spoke that one word EVER just a few shouts and screams. When you have characters talking it kinda messes up your own internal voice for the characters sometimes. So silent characters is not a bad thing.

That's a bunch of jibberish. A recent invention? If you concider the early 80's as recent. And it's not about comparing crappy games where the main hero talks to good games where the hero does not. If link did have his own lines, and he talked like a baddass, talking trash to ganon and what not, I think that would make the game baddass. But at the same time, if they made him sound like a deushbag, it would ruin the game, so the safe way to go is no talking, but the game could be concidered better with him talking.
