I loved Final Fantasy 7 even though Cloud Strife doesn't talk. What matters is the game play, story line and how much fun you will have while playing.

I don't mind it at all. You don't need the character design laid out for you, but I'm glad some do. Silent characters in the classics are better off silent, but in Mario and Links case when the TV show adaptations came out they became such annoying chatterboxes that playing the game was better than watching the show. Most of the games I play have silent characters, some do. Some characters with voices annoy me with their personalities and tones, and then in some cases they never shut up for long dialogue scenes. D: (No offense since I still watch the entire cutscene but, it helps the character grow on me at least)A few are better silent so you can create your own character from what's given to you already, it makes some games funner when you give them their own personalities. :3

Sometimes, if the principle character is a silent one, like in HALO 3 : ODST, it emphasizes that he is of a strong character. Strong silent type.

I for one LOVE Nippon Ichi, but in one of my favorites, Soul Nomad and the Word Eaters, the character pretty much has a battle cry and whatever the LIMITED options are. Otherwise Gig and Dannette do all the talking for you practically...

I like games where the main character talks because it helps to give the character more personality and makes them more relate-able. How ever I don't mind if the character doesn't talk as long as the stories are interesting such as in The Legend of Zelda series.

Games where we don't talk are certainly not as good as if we were. Games where we talk make the game more engaging, the atmosphere is more deep, and our motives and motivation are much more apparent. But I guess I'm only talking about RPGs, because if we were playing something like Mario-Kart talking doesn't really matter.Haha, while playing Harvest Moon I just pretended my character was mute.

Yeah, I don't like RPGs where the main character doesn't talk. For instance, when I play Tales of .. games well, the main character talks so it is awesome, he has his own personality.Crono, in Chrono Trigger, even though I love the game, doesn't really have any personality and it makes it boring to me.So yeah, I prefer it when the main character speaks.I guess they don't make him talk because YOU'RE supposed to replace the main character? Not sure.

After years of silent protagonist like Link, if he ever did speak I'd be totally pissed.

All pokemon games do this!I think its because you can talk at the game and say what you would say anyway. I find it annoying, i would rather see what my dude has to say.

i really don't like it when the hero or main character doesn't talk because it ruins the whole experience and you just feel like your controlling a shell of a person.

I don't like those kind of games either but sometimes it makes the character more mysterious & cooler like Link.just sometimes.I like the games that the character DOES talk, like dragon age where you can kinda pick what you say instead of the character not talking.

As in a silent protagonist? I like the idea myself, as it usually immerses the player even more. To an extent, it's in a vein that you yourself are that character, and any reactions would be stemmed from your own.

I don't mind when the character doesn't talk, because then it's affected mainly by your decisions. But I don't mind if it does talk.

I think that it can be used effectively but is often a case of speeding up game production by removing dialogue choices for the player. If done well, a game can certainly be amazing with a silent protagonist, but in general making decisions and choosings paths KOTOR style appeals to me most.
