I don't really like that, cause I'd really like to see the character behind the silent guy... But I guess it's better than having a character you just hate...

Silent Protagonist Syndrome?I can see the logic behind it, (raise immersion by letting the player impose themselves on the character,) but I don't like it personally.

if they start the series not talking, they need to keep it that way, such as Zelda. if link started speaking, i'd be crushed. i love how your haracter in pokemon says nothing but apparently they can change people's lives, lol. ff12 is great though, with vaan's voice

I had this exact thought about talking in gamesin yu gi oh wc 2010 reversa of arcadia your character is only shown to communicate by the others going "whats that? you are a mindless drone for some unseen controller?"it really bugs me, but in rune factory and things like Star wars KotOR where they only make death or exertion noises it really doesnt cause any noticegears and the force unleashed do speak and they also provide great effect. I guess its jus how the makers try to convey their storyline that affects it

What irks me is in Fable: TLC where the character doesn't talk at all, except for when you give one of the books to the teacher in Bowerstone and you say "****".

It happens in Persona 3 and 4 and in Pokemon games and it is really frustrating.

It depends on the character's voice I could love a single character just by his way they speak or their accent :mellow:But one game That comes up to me where the main protagonist doesn't talk is in DrakengardBecause of this pact he makes with this dragon.I really love that game.

It doesn't bother me too much either way. I think I'm leaning towards the main character talking, since I don't see myself as the character in the first place. However, I do think it works perfectly in Pokemon, since there's not much of a storyline.

I think it's really annoying when your character can only say what the options allow him to say. Sometimes the options are really stupid. Also if the character talks it gives him a personality. As long as he talks at least a little bit it's all good.

Lol, it's even worse when they give you a choice, but not really. Prime example would be in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire, where the professor asks you to go meet his kid. You can pick no, but if you do, it just loops endlessly.

I also dislike when it doesn't say anything but the other characters act like you said something.

i like it when the hero doesnt talk. it makes it easier to assume the role and imagine yourself as the character

The problem with chars with speech is the fact that you'll never be able to live down the shame that comes with being a faggy little gung ho kid who laughs at everything and tells people to believe in themselves....ugh.

I feel that if the main character dosent talk they feel distant and dont really enjoy the game as much as i should. I start to feel annoyed if they dont talk throughout the game.

It's overused and I usually dislike it, but it works in Chrono Trigger.

It takes role playing to a higher level, Not by a lot, but it does make role playing more of, "You in his shoes."

Well when the main protagonist talks, it sounds great when its during a cut scene, but when they just talk to get into an event i think its dumb. but lol i like how the main character in the pkmn games just says ... .... i thnk thats fun.

I'm not sure what the question was. Did the TC refer to audible speech or did the TC refer to communication in the form of text? If the question referred to the player hearing the protagonist talk, then I'd say that it doesn't bother me if the protagonist doesn't talk -- if the game was released before the year 2000. A protagonist who doesn't speak in the current gen does bother me.

sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.one thing i really hated was when FFCC Ring of Fate had the protagonist talk, while Echoes of Time didn't, and didn't even show the character in the cutscenes. I though that kind of ruined the game.I love it in Earthbound though, when a guy gets pissed off at you coz you wont talk. :(

is much better when they have dialogues are very long ... better games with quiet or timid characters ex. MARIO.

It's kind of boring if the hero doesn't talk, but it wouldn't stop me from getting the game if it was good.
