The Lite is very tough. I've dropped it about ten times and it still works perfectly.

You're right ... it is fragile ... but not too fragile... you have to handle it with care ... then it is a very nice handheld !!! :D

i reckon the ds is strong i mean mine got thrown (not dropped - THROWN, man i hate my old man sometimes) but it still worked efficiently. its the touch screen you gotta watchout for, stab it with the stylus to hard and... hope your selection of games dont need it.plus the lite is much more smaller for the pocket than a psp litereading previous posts, its not a question of: "is it too fragile" its a question of: "are you careful enough to own one"

i don't think so, i think i've dropped it a couple of times, maybe 3 at most, and it's still in pretty good condition, no scratches or anything. :/

The original DS was buily badly. The DS Lite/DSi was no better and thinner to boot which made it even more flimsier. The new DSi XL seems ok. I still see the same flaws on that like on the DS Lite but we'll see how it pans out for me. This is only my second DS but I only wanted the larger screen. A few more inches and it could pass as a netbook.

You see, what I try is NOT to drop it. But from what I've seen in the hands of my little niece, it's fragile when you stab the touchscreen with the stylus and opening it further than you should.

I'd say it's about so-so. I've dropped mine a few times and it suffered no damage whatsoever. But then I guess I dropped it in just the right way for one hinge to bust and the Mic to malfunction. Still plays good, as long as I shy away from stuff like Spectrobes.

Well, I have the fatty DS :3 I've had that fat DS ever since the DS first came out. And it's still very much alive. I've noticed that there are some dots in my touchscreen that have no more colour and just flash white which sucks, I think they are called dead pixels... but anyway, apart from that it works perfectly. I have a co-worker who's eight year old son broke three DS Lites so I'm guessing that it's a more fragile model, but it could also be that I'm twenty-one and the kid is eight. :foldarms: I'd say it's not that fragile, because i've JAMMED my screen plenty of times with the stylus. However, we must always take care of our things and that is important to keep in mind.

no well it ur own fault if u drop it

That's not exactly what the O.P. asked, is it?In any case, hand-held devices aren't made to withstand gale-force winds or sledge-hammer shots, but they can be rather fragile, especially the newer models. In any case, whether we're speaking the truth about how careless we may be or not, we should be more careful in general when it comes to electronics. Many of these devices will be worth good money someday, and we'll be glad when we kept ours in good condition. I treat all my electronics like they're as fragile as compact discs, and I curse at those who don't treat my items with that same level of respect. You all should do the same, no matter which are built to be less fragile.

I have gone through three 'shells" from ebay in less than a year on my son's DS. It breaks every time he drops it. It even broke when he dropped it on carpet. He looks the thing, but it is far too fragile in my opinion.

I think it's pretty sturdy, but I might be too hard on mine. There's a crack in the top portion of my DS where it flips open. I think I was drunk and maybe dropped it?

well build quality wise i think they are top notch, they feel sturdy and good quality plastics. i think its jst the nature of the flip that makes the 2 parts a weak point being able to snap, as with flip phones or even some laptops i would imagine. the question to ask is how could have they made it any better? i think its a perfect compromise of weight and quality to make it any stronger you would have to make it a lot heavier and bulkier which didnt sell very well with the original DS hence why the lite was made.

The DS is pretty sturdy, but wear and tear really gets to it. Plus the screen is ridiculously easy to permenently damage. So I would say it's about a medium on the fragile chart.

It isn't fragile, but it definitely isn't a sturdy as a PSP, which isn't such a huge surprise. The PSP is a large chunk compared to the DS, which does have its weak point at its hinges. But honestly, why should you have to ask which one is sturdier? I mean, someone must've paid good money for it, so why would you think about breaking it?

I have an nds and it has been dropped numerous times and subjected to daily abuse, being thrown into bags and such and it's still going strong!
