I think so yes. I mean no offense to those who are in higher levels than I (who have like over hard-working homework in comparison) but seriously! Everyday I come to school after an afternoon-evening non-stop work and my friends notice I have no energy at all. I mean during breaks (winter, spring and summer) I sleep all day and put everything school related away from my room. I swear like I have a headache everyday. But it's a bad thing that I slack off on the last few days of school though. Usually my teachers wouldn't count the last week of school work in the report card but moving in a new one where EVERYTHING counts, it's sort of making me so fudging stressed. But that's what (I guess) breaks are for. To prevent breakdown on students. Woot woot for breaks!

I'm a student, and I wouldn't say that there's too much homework.Basically, time management is the key.I hate homework,so I finished it before I could get home >=).If there's REALLY too much I couldn't finish it even at home, then yeah...there's too much homework in that

There is no way that people are gettign too much hw.The most homework i ever had was in middle school. After that i got less and less each year till I got to college and never even had to do my hw. (mind you its no that great as many of you have said hw is essential to understandign the material that is taught in class)Students are just lazy (like me) and whine if they get too much hw. I feel shcools should really try to teach time managment skills a little better (but in my honest opinion i think thats somethign you have to teach yourself as everyone works better with a different schedule)To conclude, from my high school experince the amount if hw i got was just right, as a varsity athlete I still had time to hang out and chill instead of constantly being working.

I really don't think kids have that much homework, well in my case. Here is my reasons:1. Check the economy we are in. With this type of recession, it only shows that we are not having enough education.2. Competition is now becoming globalized. Basically, those from other countries can now compete for jobs in the U.S. Furthermore, some countries like China, Japan, Korea, India, and the likes have much more rigorous education systems than the one we have here in the U.S.3. It is one's choice to choose whether to do or not do the homework. All you got to do is prepare for the consequences should you neglect your work.

I completely agree on every single point. A few kids may feel overwhelmed but I think that is because parents today try to make their children lives so comfortable that when their parents can't interfere anymore they feel unprepared. I've read a bunch of news articles where enough parents complains to a school where they lower the toughness of tests, and work, or lower the averaging so that a C becomes a B+. My last year of high school I had AP courses in Cal, Physics, and Programming, plus honors in everything else. Plus doing track and football, and I still managed my time to hang out with friends and family. But then again I liked those courses so when you enjoy your classes the homework doesn't seem that long.

Horrible People!!! Im in 11 grade im smart but {("LAZY]")}. Many are like me. We refuse to do homework and it messes up our grades badly. It makes some succeed (I havent done any in 3 years but maintain a B averge). Many hate homework and will succeed rather than do it. then they drop out and waste a perfect mind. Homework hurts us more than helps us. So I say F@#$ homework from the bottom of my heart !!!

Education level has changed drastically the past 20 years in a bad way. What people are taught today is not near the amount and level of difficulty that our parents had. We are getting dumber. The funny part is that 60% of the kids today rebel against the system and get nothing from the little had education.Work load is heavy when you have a very large social life. People that don't have no excuse.

When kids complain about to much homework they never really take the time to just sit down and focus if everyone did that they would realize that it takes a lot less time then they think. Some night i think i have like 3 hours of homework if i sit down without complaining and just do it i end up finishing in under an hour and a half.

I think it depends on the country the program, school and the teacher.Because i was in a russian school and i thought they gave way to much homework! But I was in a english school to and I was suprised!!! In russia they gave a lot of homework every day but in England there was homework once a week! And not a lot that was really suprising so the is answer is that it depends.

Chyeah. At least, in certain subjects. For example, homework in math is important to have, as is history; math, and reviewing it, ensures that you know it since it's basically applying knowledge which is hard for some who do not practice, and history is memorization. However having excessive english homework is sorta stupid...you're already immersed in the language (ESL being the exception).

I believe that it's less a matter of how much and more a matter of how it's applied and taught. Schools are focusing on teaching people how to take tests and pass classes instead of actually teaching students the materials. With education focused like that, the actual amount of homework is moot as it's all about making the schools look good on paper to continue and heighten funding.

I don't think soThe amount of homework is reasonable but the quality of homework for younger grades seems a little too high. For Example my little cousin who is 4th grade had to do a complicated letter to obama (forgot the letter type). Personally they never taught me anything like that while i was in 4th gradeBut really children shouldn't whine about how much homework they get. Just tell them it will make them smarter and they will probably do it (seeing how they like to brag to each other)So really the quality of HW should be lower but Children shouldn't complain on how much homework they should get

It seems that kids these days are having it tougher and tougher when it comes to school. When I was in fourth grade, one of the public schools I went to wouldn't allow recess for 3rd graders and up. We were piled with hours of challenging homework on top of having to worry about standardized testing at the end of the year. With colleges and jobs becoming more competitive, parents are far too worried about their kids futures so they overload their children with extracurricular activities. On top of that parents are also considering sending their kids to school at an earlier age, for example, my mom is trying to teach my 3 year old nephew how to read and write so that he can be prepared for preschool. So I think that kids these days are being pushed too hard and the homework is really contributing to all this added stress that the kid has to face. Instead of overloading the kid with hours of homework, I think that they need enough homework to reinforce what was learned during class time, but not so much that the kid has to stay up until 3 AM to work on it on top of having it interfere with other activities.

well to me... having loads of homework would be a good thing? My brother dun have much homework to do every time and when he comes back he just glues himself to the tv or the pc and start playing games from sun up to sun down..so do you think homework is too much? wait till you come to uni... you'll truly know the extend of homework. Here, assignments and revisions are all over the place and when you just thought you can sit down and relax, comes a whole new load.i believe homework is there for a reason and it's not to torture you or anything like that. It's meant to slowly prepare you for the higher education that you will have a chance to be in namely college or university. Imagine a baby learning to run before he even knows how to crawl. It's absolutely nonsense and not helpful. So, be glad you have homework actually..how many children in this world don't actually have the chance to study like you do?

Much homework in math is fine with me. 'Cause repeatedly doing those in fact helps you master it. That's what made me get better in math. Why is history so important though?? I really hate it. Homework is also damn freakin' difficult. I'm in high school.

^ Because history repeats itself. We don't want another Hitler or Stalin taking control nor do we want negative things like slavery and racism to continue.^^ There is a such thing as too much homework like when the teachers give you hours of homework, projects, essays, tests, at the same time. I've experienced nights where I had to work on two essays, a project, and study for finals and it's really stressful.Homework is only good as a reinforcement of what you learned in class and teachers need to control the amount of homework so that it doesn't interfere with other classes as well as extracurricular activities. I've had classes that assign huge projects, essays, and tests around the same time other classes have projects, tests, and essays due.

Homework is a load of crap. You spend (in Britain) 6 and a half hours in school, 5 days a week. Now why would you want to come home and do more work  . Ridiculous. This is coming from a 13 year old.GPs were deducted for this post, please read the rules! - reddeath26

Too much homework? More like too much lazy kids. If they actually sat down and did their homework right when they get it instead of putting it off until the last minute, they wouldn't have a wall of work to do and then blame their poor grades on "too much homework".GPs were deducted for this post, please read the rules! - reddeath26

Are children really getting too much homework? I don't think so. To me, homework helps us to digest all the lessons learnt in the day. For some children with no tuitions or parental guidance at home, they may not be able to catch up with what the teacher is teaching in school. how much homework do we need then? For example, if we have maths lessons in the day, we should have sufficient relevant math homework for the rest of the day, so that we do not forget what has been taught in the day. Children who complain about having too much homework are most probably those who do not spend their time wisely, as not differentiating homework and play time can get yourself into trouble. Rushing out maths homework at night is not ideal as we would not be able to think as well as when we do it straight after we come home, when the topic is still fresh in your head. also , we are less tired. So do you still think we have too much homework? if we had lesser homework, our global study average will drop by a lot. so if we have less homework, we may face another lack of scholars in the near future.

Homework is an important part of learning- Mainly because it helps you to consolidate your learning so far. It's only really useful if the homework in question asks you to use what you have learned in class to complete a task or asks you to research a topic that you will be doing at a later date. However, it's only really neccesary when the subjects start to get more complex (for example in the later years of education) and when studying at a college or university. I think there is no way to sy if all children get too much homework because of the different amounts of homework given to children across the country, but I'd say that most children get a good level of homework.

I believe that certain types of homework should be stopped. Homework along the lines of taking notes or outlining(or things of that sort) is useless, especially if it covers new material. After all, this method of homework is just the teacher being lazy and relying on the book to do their teaching for them. Outlining does not really serve to reinforce or teach because students often slack off and just copy from the book while not paying attention to the work. I can understand homework that reviews and reinforces material taught in class (such as worksheets). It forces the student to engage their minds and put the material to use.

I feel it would be better for young children to stay in school a bit longer and then home time would be just that. Hoowever when they become old enough to sit exams then some study at home will be required.GPs were deducted for this post, please read the rules! - reddeath26

of course we are given too much homework (and i'd know im a senior in high school) if i actually did it all i'd never get to bed! on average, i get 8 pages (front and back) of worksheets to fill out per day, approximately 30 pages (front and back) of notes to review per week, 12 quizzes per week (usually 1 page, front and back) and most classes have tests atthe end of the week. not to mention extra work for elective classes. (i take a machining class so i dont have any take-home but friends who take art have tons of work) and english classes constantly have a writing assignment out usually due every month or so. like i said, i dont do most of the work so it doesnt matter too much to me but for most school kids it matters a lot.
