First, because it's a classic RPG series that's been around since the NES time. I can't say for sure but I guess it had innovative gaming elements at that time, when RPG games were not that abundant. Second, because of PSOne's popularity and FF7. The use of beautiful pre-rendered scenarios, plus 3d graphics, and CG movies along with a deep storyline made a masterpiece RPG game that certainly helped boost the number of FF fans.

The FFTA series beats the FF series by a long shot in terms of portables.

I guess final fantasy is popular because when the battles start, the graphics are pretty cool, and so are the weapons and armour. If I rate it, it would be a 5/5 for me!

Final fantasy games were great until Squaresoft merged with Enix( I think) to make square enix. Because of this fusion, I believe that final fantasy games and anything made by them is terrible. In fact, I even did a small research project on why people buy games made by square enix. It was due to 2 reasons, 1)They want to see their favorite chars again or 2) They're expecting another great final fantasy game.Honestly, I think Square Enix is just making games that are just... not how final fantasy use to be. Cussing, sexual suggestion, crazy ideas, etc. That's what made final fantasy great.

final fantasy games are the only rpgs that are made right others are put together crappy with boring dialog and no story

There's no such thing as an RPG without story. Oh, and thanks for the fanboyism. I guess BOT, Phantom Brave, Disgaea, Dragon Warrior, Dragon Quest, are all feeble and have no story simply because you prefer another game. Still, Final Fantasy is pretty much a legendary turn-based RPG. Square is well known for it.

i never got to play a final fantasy game up until i was 14 years old... i played final fantasy 11, now im 19, and i think it was great, and it got me into all the other final fantasy games... they have a good story line, the grinding aspect is good, i loved these ones:FF 1 : the original one, come on, gotta like it.FF 2 : i liked the fact that you dont lvl up, you actually raise your stats, and it had a deeper story line.FF 4 : job changing, thats all i have to say.FF 9 : skills from weapons love it.FF 10: BIIIIIG skill three.FF 11: online, intense story and boss fights, party based, AND they Finally fixed the party system with the syncronisation (sorry, bad english), where as, if you are lvl 55, and there is a party of lvl 50's, you can go down to lvl 50 and get experience for your lvl 55 character.

I think Final Fantasy is so popular because of the storyline, and on top of that, every one has a new, different, and sometimes revolutionary idea that other RPGs dont have.

The FF series has good characters that players can cherish and relate to, the music by Nobuo Uematsu is phenomonal, and the storylines are interesting enough to keep anyone hooked.
