people get off on the depth to make up for a lack of actual life. its a way to distract from having a terrible life of their own. yeah, take that...

Final Fantasy has just become a classic, when you think of RPG, the first thing that comes to mind IS Final Fantasy. The games have never failed to please, I don't care what people say about FF X-2.

I believe FF is so popular just because it got lucky. While all the games, with the exception of the recent spinoff games like x-2 and 12: revelant wings, were great in their own rights (except for whoever thought of the lvl system in FF2[die and go to hell]). The games had depth to the story, mandatory side tracks, optional quests for story info or ultimate game items, even mini games. each game had a secondary system to power up your character as well, either by skill maps, class systems, or spell/skill uses. The turnbased system from the originals became the standard until the newer systems made action rpg fun and easy. but all this could be said about enix's trek with star ocean series, the crono series, sa-ga.....you get the picture. their are just more ff games than the others, so it is more popular openly, but look at the fan base of all the other games.

I think it would be the somewhat original yet familair storyline that not only keeps the fan interesteed but also due to the differing concepts of the game(from materia-magicites-drawing),playerscan always expect something new from each game

Let's be honest. Everyone is so into final fantasy because of the 7th installment as well as the 6th (Which was called final fantasy 3 cause square only released final fantasy 1, 4 and 6 to north america). Final fantasy 6 with it's colorful and new game sprites and graphics introduced RPG to a lot of people in north america (And of course here in the phillipines). Then came final fantasy 7 with it's story, characters and game system totally hitting everyone and gave them a glimpse what an RPG is (IT'S SO COOL, FORGET STREET FIGHTER AND MORTAL KOMBAT!!!). After that, they bought the succeeding games after 7, hoping to feel that tingling sensation (Hey, no pun intended there) again which got everyones hype to the next final fantasy being the next final fantasy 7 yet again. The problem though is that, almost everyone thinks that every RPG has to be that gimmicky to be called an RPG which was why a lot of RPG masterpiece was barely noticed by people whom say their favorite genre is RPG.

Well i think it's mainly because of their storyline, their so griping and involving most of the time. The style of play and generally the...feel of the game if i could call it that, just pulls people into the game. Generally awesome graphics are a plus as well. Their just 2 good.

The number one reason for me?...Quality. You'll never get a Final Fantasy game that feels cheap or rushed or have cheap production value or any of that. Even back in the day when the FF series just had sprites on the SNES, those games were new and innovative and used things that people had never seen before. Even now, you know you're getting a deep, LONG game with top-notch effects and graphics with a usually new and innovative system filled with lots of sidequests and TONS of things to do. Yes, some FF games tend to fall flat (FF7, FFX, etc) but even the lesser games are still not that bad and are worth another playthrough. You're rarely going to feel like a Final Fantasy game is cheap or rushed and will disappoint. (Of course, I'm only talking about the MAIN FF games...not the cheap spinoffs like Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus which are just cheap, rushed games that are there just to bank on the fact that most FF7 fans will spend any amount of money on any piece of crap that has anything to do with FF7). I think the Final Fantasies do so well because they are always very well rounded games. They've got good characters who develop over the game. Strong main characters and fleshed out villains are great to see grow. Not to mention the hot looking girls for the guys and the hot looking guys for the girls. (*coughCloud!cough*) Game play's always a thrill too. From the minigames to the battles, everything's very immersive. And then comes the music. I think the FF series has some of the most mind blowing music ever, rivalling the CastleVania music.

probably because they're easily accessible and incredibly easy, with cliche storylines that everyone loves.Mass media for the masses. The only Final Fantasy game i can say that I really like, is FF6, because that is a truly amazing game.haven't enjoyed any other one; they've all just felt like work for no reward.

I enjoy the FF series because of the storyline and characters. The chocbos are cute too. :3 A good portion of the people who play the FF series are die-hard cult following fans and others are just getting into the RPG field. I like that the systems generally stay the same and you basically know what to expect when you start it up. The cutscenes are always breathtaking, especially as the consoles get more powerful. It's a good series although a lot of it has been hyped beyond what the games really deserve but even so it's great series and will probably go down in history as the longest running Game franchise ever. The franchise that saved a company.

Final Fantasy is popular because it's a well made (and milked) series which effectively utilizes the whole system of RPGs in an effective manner especially with it's highly addicting story. It basically is the visual successor to Dungeons and Dragons.

Although a lot of people really like the Final Fantasy's like Final Fantasy III, I personally played it on the DS and really didn't see what all the rave was about. I mean, I loved XII. The story-line was excellent and the graphics were great. But I just couldn't get past the bland action. I love rpg's but Golden Sun is much better if I had to pick a fav.
