You guys talk as if Final Fantasy had always been popular. Before VII came out, Final Fantasy series weren't as popular as they are today. Heck, during that time, more than half the players hadn't even heard of them. But after VII came out, due to its sheer popularity, more and more people started looking for more games, believing that they would be as good as VII itself. In no time, the popularity skyrocketed to a point where 99.9 percent of people who play games know about it.

+1, square really took a huge gamble with FF7, it was basically the game that would make em or break em and now we know the result of their decision :)

I love the turn based combat and the class/job systems they havethe games which don't have interchangeable classes make up for this by having very unique characters that you can combine to make great teamsalso, materia rocks!

actually the first final fantasy was the "make or break" game, Square was on the brink of bankruptcy and they had enough money to make 1 more gamehence the title FINAL fantasyall of the games were hugely popular in Japan, but it took time to get the USA due to translations etcthey were doing fine before FF7, it was never a make or break gameit was their first jump into 3D, that's all

For a game that was supposed to be the "final" product from Hironobu Sakaguchi it turned out to be one heck of a series that several people are still attracted to.I've enjoyed the games mainly for the addictive storylines (except for Final Fantasy VIII... although I did like the battlesystem), character development, and the battlesystem changes.

It's fun to look for FF cameo (like wedge and biggs, cid) FF weapon (ragnarok, leonheart, save the queen), FF magic (holy, ultima, summon magic). N squaresoft (now squareenix) always make FF series more advance in graphic, sound, storyline although some FF gameplay and battle system are boring

Final Fantasy has been around for a long while, and has always been pretty fun in my opinion. The Final Fantasy series only got better (Up to a certain point though, I'd say. I didn't like FFX-2 and some others too much), especially when it hit FFVII. After that point, a lot of people became hooked.I personally love the storyline and characters in each game. :3

I believe that Final Fantasy games are so popular because they have wonderful story lines, easy controls, and great graphics.

I say its because they all have great storylines and graphics, and there were many people who enjoyed the first FF when it came out so they continued playing the series. And as wiiman360 said, they also have great controls. Mainly people played the very early FF games, therefore they buy the new ones, introduce it to friends etc. Also, I just love how there are twists to Final Fantasy, and so do many other people. I can pick so many and type them here, but i wouldnt want to spoil anything for anyone (if they havent finished the certain game). Anyways thats my lil insight.

FF is a great JRPGthey are very long storiesthe fact that most games are completely unrelated helps keep the interestalso, every game keeps coming out with better graphics (handhelds and stationary consoles separately)the characters also have relatively much development through speech patterns and the likefinally, battle systems ftw

During the early days of NES, there are only two prominent RPG games: Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. I found out that FF has much better presentation than DQ so I'd continued to play FF and never played any more DQ since then.

Well, the games were pretty popular before VII, but when VII came out it revolutionized gameplay, graphics, and I guess somewhat of storylines. The storylines are what keep the series going.

final fantasy is so popular becasue there are so many of them. you see on other game goes up to 3, let alone 14. so i think the olny reason it is so liked is becasue it is so old.
