If it's pure action, F.E.A.R. On the hardest difficulty level it is one intense combat experience. If i want something which requires a little more thought: Deus Ex or System Shock II, both great shooter/rpg combo's.

System Shock 2, easily the best game in existence. Its genuinely scary, has a brilliant and involving storyline and has a pretty good game engine (dark engine). If you haven't played it I recommend you search for it on ebay as it is an absolute classic. Its a pity it was beaten in popularity by half life when it was actually a better a game, slower and more complex, but nevertheless a better game.

Right now I'm pretty addicted to Battlefield 2142. Incidentally I can only play it on my friend's computer. It doesn't work on my computer for reasons I don't understand.

hard to say probably CS source though but i like delta force also and doom and call of duty lol but counter strike is still probably no. 1
