I use to sleep with the T.V. on all the time, but now when it's on i find the hardest time falling asleep. My bf can only fall asleep when the t.v. IS on unfortunately.... So i fall asleep quite a while after he does :o

My parents have never supported putting a TV in my room. I like the radio more since it can make me fall asleep a lot faster. I was in a hotel watching Saturday Night Live while trying to sleep at the same time; I couldn't.

Yes, I can sleep without the T.V. on. If anything the T.V. actually makes it a little harder for me to sleep.

I can usually sleep with sound on, be it tv or radio. I guess I'm use to sound cause I use to be in a band and when you are tired, you can sleep through anything.

I can surely sleep with the TV turned off. Its really irritating to have lights flashing in random manner... Gets my temporal lobe aching XD

I personally find it hard to sleep with the television on. Too much noise keeps me awake :)

If the tv is on, but on mute, I can sleep with it on, but other wise, no. Can't stand noises while I'm trying to sleep, which is why any time the stairs are in use while I'm asleep, I try to avoid people for awhile.

If you calm yourself down enough and will yourself to sleep you should be able to sleep in most normal circumstances.(alternatively just wait till you are reeeaaally tired, as many have suggested)Additionally I don't make it a habit to watch TV, or to have the TV switched on in the background or anything like that. With that it is no surprise that I can always sleep without the TV on.

I find it difficult to force myself to sleep when I'm not tired but if I sit at a computer or something to keep myself busy I'll put off sleep entirely (due to it being a less than ideal sleeping spot). I suppose this is where the TV comes in for most people, it's probably not so much a background noise thing but something to keep you occupied and in a comfortable spot until you are tired enough. Usually I take my netbook to bed and fall asleep using that (maybe this is worse than a TV) though my partner pretty much refuses to sleep in a bed until we get a TV in the room. Luckily we have a large couch. :D

I can sleep with the T.V. on or off but with the T.V. on it really helps me sleep especially on really boring T.V. shows.
