Resident Evil 4 changed a lot from its ancentors (RE 1, 2 and 3). In this game you now have a behind-the-back camera and laser sight targeting system. not only that, but now the monsters aren't even zombies *shock*. instead you fight off "Ganados" which is spanish for "cattle", who are humans transformed by a parasite named "Las Plagas" or "The Plague". These enemies require a different strategy other than shoot them before they reach you; they can use weapons such as axes, knives and sickles. Later on you meet new enemies that can use more advanced weaponry like maces, scythes, crossbows and even catapults! The main character is Leon S. Kennedy from RE 2 i think (correct me if im wrong). this game brings back many old favourite characters that will not be spoiled here. The storyline is very intense making new plot twists at every other turn. The most interesting aspect of the game is the interactive cutscenes. There are some scenes that require you to press a series of buttons (or if playing the Wii, shake the controller) to avoid instant death moments. This is also applied in boss fights to avoid high damage attacks, or even instant kill attacks. Speaking of boss fights, they went all out in making some of these fights, mostly the bosses looks. Some of these bosses include "Del Lago", a massive lake monster, "El Gigante" whose name says it all, and "Cheif Mendez" and if you have a fear of insects, then he's not your favourite boss. A new and very useful system added in this game is the currency system. there are points in the game where you meet "the merchant" who will sell you items such as guns and healing items, and will even custom upgrade your guns for a fee. You can upgrade firepower, firing speed, reload speed, and clip capacity. you can also sell weapons, items, and treasures you find for extra money. Hint: some treasures can be combined to make them sell for even higher amounts. many people i know who play this game have made the same comment to me: the merchant is useful, but he is very annoying. by the end of the game you just want to shoot him in the face (which you can do. you can kill him at any merchant spot and he will be magically alive again at the next point)! Unfortuanatley, you can't buy ammo, grenades, or herbs from the merchant, these must be found. you can, however, sell unneeded ammo to him, sometimes to just free up inventory space. progress through the game unlocks new weapons, items, and upgrades to buy from the merchant. Each weapon also has an exclusive upgrade which increases 1 of the 4 "stats" beyond the maximum limit. Ex: the max firepower of the standard handgun is about 4.3, the exclusive upgrade increases it to 5.8 which is a little less than basic firepower for the shotgun. a final change to the orginal RE gameplay is saving. you still use typewriters but is does not require ink caps. you can save whenever you want. If you get this game, i suggest either PS2, Wii, or PC version, not GameCube. This is due to the fact that the GC version does not include certain options available on the versions. Why this happened i have yet to find out. maybe they just got lazy. If anyone can shed some light on that subject, tell me cause im very curious about it

I would def suggest the Wii version. It has better graphics than the PS2 one and you get the awesome feel of playing through more realistic. This game is truly epic and I hope they go in a similar direction with future RE games.

You know, if you manage to keep Ashley alive, and get to the final stage, you can find a couple of useful things with Ashley.Although most of the times, she's a liability (always getting kidnapped, geez...) but if ur good enough, you can beat the game anyday.

Resident Evil 4 is a really good game and the gamecube version is definately better than the PS2 version. The Gamecube version would produce the cinematic moments in real time, that means that the costume you're playing in is the same as the one in the self-played parts. In the PS2, the movies were pre rendered in order to keep it on par with the gamecube graphics. Obviously the gamecube was the graphical powerhouse during that time in gaming history.

You really think so? I thought it was pretty big, not for a resident evil game though. I mean when you look at the half life two episodes or quake 4, It really is pretty big. Halo2 can be done in one night, I'm not done RE4 yet and I've put an easy 24 hours into it. (not saying your opinion isn't valid, just not my opinion)

I remember on a video game award show resident evil 4 won the best video game of the year. My thoughts exactly too. Great gameplay, excellent story, setting and atmosphere. 5 star game in my opinion.

RE4 is amazing! The Resident Evil series has long been just about my favorite and I think that the over the shoulder perspective was just the big change the series needed to make it new and exciting again. Plus Leon has always been my favorite character. I can't wait for 5 to come out. I hope it's even more epic.
