Picking a character opposite your gender and not using it to deceive people is alright, for most cases.Girls often do end up with armour that's better eye candy and it's not wrong to want to oggle at an avatar of the other gender. Some guys use girl characters as a form of personality exploration and the same could be said for girls. Guys tend to be more "prized" in society I think so it's harder for them to explore such issues in real life so they do it online. Girls on the other hand don't normally have that kind of stress. That's why girls can hold hands whenever they want and no one's gonna bat an eyelid, but guys don't normally hold hands. There are the rotten eggs though, those who use girl characters just to take advantage of other guys. That's just nasty. And everyone's getting smarter on this too. People know that the players behind the avatars not necessarily be the same gender, so everyone takes it with a pinch of salt.

I LIKE TO PLAY AS FEMALES IN POKEMON COZ I NAME THEM AFTER MY GF BUT IN GAMES SUCH AS WRESTLING I TEND TO KEEP IT BALANCED SO THAT I CAN KICK ASS OR RUN AWAY SINCE THE FEMALES ARE ALWAYS FASTER BUT GAMES SUCH AS TEKEN I GO THE GUY SINCE I CAN JUST RUN IN AND SMACK THE LIFE OUTA MY ENEMYPOINTS were deducted for this post by DownShiftPlease refer to the forum rules to find out why your points were deducted.

I play as female characters for a couple reasons. Aesthetics sometimes play a big part. For example, in Guild Wars, I made a female character just because I wanted a character of a certain class and the particular set of female 15k armor for that class simply fit my tastes more. Also some practical uses, such as multi-clienting situations like in RO, in which I can marry my male character on another account and exploit family-exp-sharing for leeching another character. However, I hardly approve of people who make female characters and pretend to be female for whatever reason (unless it's a joke, in which case it's funny). I never make any attempt at hiding my gender (mostly because they're still named similarly), and I don't really understand people who do. I also can't understand why guys give stuff or talk sweetly to "females" in games. It's not like society necessarily demands the same gender-interaction protocols in virtual environments, and it's not like you'll receive any real substantial benefit from it. GIRL = Guy In Real Life.

it depends on the game, like metroid is one of my favorite games and i dont have a choice. but in games where u pick the sex of ur char i think u should pick ur own gender (if there is no difference in tehs stats bewteen them) but if ur picking and making more than 1 char in a party i think u should add a girl or two in there.

I usually play as girls in MMOs. I like the fact that I can get free stuff, and it is just funny.

Well I often use female chars because they are much nicer to look, and also because most male chars in jap games look so gayish

Female characters in MMOs generally look cooler, and often just appearing female will cause other players to be a lot more civil towards you. XD

I believe each sex should play as the sex that reflects what they actually are. Male characters for males and female characters for females.

Irregardless of the differences they may get between the two sexes in terms of Strength, Stamina, Endurance, etc, I will always go with the male character. I'd just feel awkward bein' a female character, especially if its a MMORPG.... But Heavenly Sword would be an exception since it's a female as the main character.

You could ask the exact same thing except the other way around. Us females genuinely prefer the male characters to the female ones( just goin' on personal experience, so I could be wrong), and so we play as guys. So really, it shouldn't be a problem at all if guys wanna play as girls. If someone wants to play as their favourite character, it doesn't matter the gender at all.But that's my opinion.

Its been said a hundred times already in this thread, but like many people I use both. If anything I almost seem to alternate between them. Once I get bored with how a bloke looks I will change. And vice versa. And in some games it changes certain dialogue options. I find it amusing to try and get every little bit out of my game.As for people finding that its embarressing when you are chatting a female character up online and it turns out to be a bloke, maybe you should consider what you are doing? Trying to pick up anyone in an online game is stupid. The few girls who go online generally won't admit it or are even scared off by the crazy reaction that they get. Seriously, if they are from another country or far away there is ZERO chance of you actually getting any. As hard as it may be for some of those people, try talking to real flesh and blood girls that you know and can see, meet with in the real world and deal with in a non fantasy setting. Who knows, it might make your whole day.

theres nothing wrong with guys playing s female characters. they could just want to see if that character is better or simply because that the female character is their favourite character to use in the game.

i have to agree with every one that plays as girls because they are nimble and fast.and when you play mmo's its the same because i dont really want to look at the back of a guy for a long time.

It is... uncomfortable to play a female character on MMOs (I am a guy)... it just feels... wrong. Not to mention it will be hard to explain it to your parents, for instance. I prefer guy characters, and their 'up-close-and-personal' style in general...

I've met girls that were revolted at the amount of male characters in videogames, so I guess this applies to guys mostly. The entire point of playing a videogame is to experience an alternate/fictitious reality. Might as well do that by playing as the opposite sex. If you get yourself into uncomfortable situations due to that, it means you're taking things too seriously. The internet is not the place to get a girlfriend.
