I have my original "thick" ps2 as well. It has a weird issue with reading discs though, as it will read all games fine, but will spit out a "Cannot read disc." error halfway through some DVD movies. Other than that, it works perfectly.
Anyone still have the "Thick" PS2?

i have 2 phat ps2. why upgrade? the slim is just slim and the ps3 doesnt even have backwards capability anymore....ill stick with what i got, plus you cant hack the slim ps2(i heard).
