I think they are making nice money with it as it is, so no reason to give it away free. Even if it gains them more people they will still make more money by having people pay for it. It is the best that is the only reason they can make you pay for it. The day sony make a great online experience live will be free.

HiNo I don't think Xbox Live should be free, if you see how many people use their 3 free accounts? nearly everybody... and with those 3 accounts they make 3 new gamertags... by imagine every person that has an xbox being able to make 3 gamertags for free... then imagine each person trying to play with their gamer tags and new people trying to make their gamer tags!! there would be no gamertags available for anyone... people just start new sessions just because they get bored of their games and therefore start new ones to replay all their games and get their achievements again and again... Therefore I conclude that XBox Live shouldn't be free... Cheers

Ya Sony definitely has the edge on online. FREE! come on the Live isn't all that interactive and lets face it some of us don't go on every day. Its not to sensible to pay even for a month when your only 'on' on weekends. I only manage it once or twice a month myself. And I had to plan for that so that I could participate in a Soul Calibur tournament.

Videogame hosting done on Xboxlive is a lot more reliable then PSN. That combined with the other features that are present justifies the cost. While SC can be laggy on Xboxlive it would be a lot worse on the PSN.Ya Sony definitely has the edge on online. Having to pay less than 5 dollars a month, if you buy it in bulk (i.e. a years worth), is nothing. And the online gameplay is MARVELOUS. I'd hate to have the PSN.

PS3 online is crappy compared to XBX live there is a lot more content for xbox live on the marketplace. Plus xbox live is free to agree- silver membership is pretty much live without multiplayer but it still gives you a functioning xbox with updates and a marketplace. Unfortunately no netflix on demand for silver members.

It wouldn't run as well if everything we're free like the PSN.Part of why XboxLIVE works so well is because it has money to maintain a working status and fix problems at the same time. Money talks my friends.

If it would be between XBL how it is now, or something like PSN/WFC, I'd gladly pad $50 a year. That's damn cheap for what you're getting. WoW is like, $15 a month for one game and no one complains...

As someone with both consoles, I often borrow friend's games to get achievements/trophies on both systems (I'll buy one but I'm not buying the same game twice). Anyways, so in general I've experienced more lag issues on the PS3 versions of games than on xbox versions. This is most likely because Sony does not have as good of a server system as Microsoft. So, I'm perfectly willing to pay $60 a year to have better quality online service (though a price drop would be nice).

Y'know, I really think the price is the biggest problem with Xbox live. They're already charging us for downloadable games and content, even demos! My subscription has almost run out, and I don't feel like I've really used it to the extent of what they're charging. It's not like it's necessarily THAT expensive, but we should be getting more stuff free for what we're paying.

It will never happen, but it would be nice if the X-Box Live was free. X-Box Live has amazing features, and it rarely lags in multiplayer games, so it's worth however much it costs right now.

If it was free, even more people would get on, instead of just hardcore gamers. If there was a way to make a profit off of it without having to maje people pay then that would be awesome.

Xbox charges so it can offer better quality services, and live has its own servers. PS3 makes the developers host the servers I think.

I think it should stay the way it is, you pay for it. Look at Playstation, their crappy service is free and you get what u pay for. Their online service doesnt even compare to Xbox Live.

it is very hard to make xbox live free... it is run by a company that wants to make a profit... and it costs to run a server that large... so unless they pack it with adds it cant be free.

I think xbox live should be free, if you paid for the internet, and the xbox and a game that goes online, then yes it should be free
