Does the story matter as much or even more as the actual game play, graphics etc?

Lets say the most important is the game play, if your having trouble controlling your character doesn't matter how good the story is you're going to get frustrated. Graphics is totally un-important in my view, I've played 2D games which are more compelling and entertaining then many of the new 3D best looking games. Story isn't always necessarily, but lets say bad stories do tend to turn players off at times.

i love storylines without a good one what would make the game (well besides the gameplay) but the story is the backbone of every game

depends on the type of game...most games play better if the story line is good but then again...sandbox games with no story line and awesome options rock as wellstuff like freelancer have the gameplay stuffed cos of the bad story line but then again that would have been aweome if it had better side quest stuffi've heard assasins creed for one owns even if you don't do the story line...so in my case i'm on the fencedespite that though graphics are a big draw

I believe That Having a good story makes the story better. The story leads where you go and what you do.Though it can still be a good game if the battle system and graphics are good.

I think so because that way you wouldn't have to keep wondering"who's he fighting?""how do hey know him?",and"are they really friends?"

It depends on the game. Games like FF and the Tales series REQUIRE a good storyline, they wouldn't be the same without great stories. Some games are fine with no story, though. Sometimes stories even ruin games. Especially over-cliche'd medieval games.

for me, yes. The storyline pretty much decides if I want the game or not. Even in 2d platformers that is important to me. I like a good ol' story to go with the b*tt kickin' .

Hell yes the Storyline of a game makes it fun! Especially if it's RPG game! Like Fire Emblem / Final Fantasy / Golden Sun. The Storyline for those 3 game series were all beautiful. Besides, if it wasn't for the Storyline in most of 'em, you probably wouldn't have found that game much interestin'.... The Storyline of a game would determine how into the game you are / would get. You'd be wonderin', "What'd he do next...?","Why would they do that....?","What's he talkin' 'bout....?", etc. Believe me, Storyline is hell-of-a-important.

Does the story matter as much or even more as the actual game play, graphics etc?

I think the story is the staple to a game on the most part. I value the story to a game first...the rest is great...but it needs story for me.Favorite game of all time is Vagrant Story.

of course the story makes it more fun. it opens the game up further, so you know what is happening and what is about to happen to a degree, but must complete X, Y, or Z to find out what happens.
